Why is no one using the kookaburra mongoose bat anymore?

Suddenly remembered about this...been a while since anyone has used it. I wonder why?

Hardly anyone used it. Hayden just used it once, IIRC.

The Mongoose was never banned, there were some scary moments when we were called to the MCC due to a small number of bats breaking specific laws - but we managed to re-design the bat slightly to even pass that law.

The reason why it has died out, and no-one uses it, is pretty much down to sponsorship costs. In 2010 we paid Matthew Hayden a 6 figure sum (USD) to use the bat in the IPL with him heavily incentivised for any sixes hit or milestones reached. However, we didn't sell enough bats (due to distribution difficulties) to cover anywhere near that investment. The UK continued to gain some traction, but spiraling sponsorship costs far outweighed the profits made from selling the bats. In 2011, Mongoose Cricket Limited went into administration - it was bought out of administration by many of the same, original shareholders but the approach now was a lot safer with no expensive international superstars or IPL players.

Without the public exposure, interest in the Mongoose sunk even lower and many saw it as a fad which had died out. Last I heard in Sept 2014 was that the company was up for sale again.
