Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid

and rightly so..... ----------------------------------------- 'Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid Cricinfo staff March 17, 2007 Mashrafe Mortaza made life easy for Bangladesh after they lost the toss ? AFP Rahul Dravid, the captain, says India will have to play out of their skins to qualify for the Super Eights following their shock defeat to Bangladesh. Dravid blamed the batting for the loss and said they were 30 to 40 runs short as Bangladesh chased down the required 192 to win by five wickets. The chase was fashioned by half-centuries to the young brigade of Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Saqibul Hasan. "Our backs are up against the wall," Dravid said. "We didn't get enough runs on the board. I thought 240 would have been a good score but the wicket surprised us. "Their bowlers kept it really tight and they didn't let us get away. We know we've got to win two games now. We've got our backs to the wall and have got to fight pretty hard." India now have to beat both Bermuda, on Monday, and Sri Lanka, on Friday, to avoid the risk of elimination. Dravid's counterpart, Habibul Bashar, was upbeat and gave due credit to the bowlers who set up the victory. After losing the toss, Mashrafe Mortaza utilised the favourable seaming conditions to pick up two early wickets, before the spinners made life difficult for the middle order. Mortaza picked up two further wickets in his second spell to clean up the tail and restrict India to less than 200. "The boys did a terrific job - it was a good toss to lose," Bashar said. "When I saw the wicket I was in two minds. Because we only played with two seamers we knew we needed to take a wicket early and Mashrafe did that. Playing against a team like India you have to work hard - and this will give us a fair chance to qualify for the second round. It's a great day for Bangladesh."

Re: Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid NO it was NOT A BRAIN FART...were you even watching? It was a superb piece of bowling by Rafique... Dada did premeditate to hit Rafique...as it was past the 40th over and India were still below 150... so he advanced down the track...Rafique saw him coming, held it back a bit and his shot was mistimed.... the catch still was a low one for which the fielder had to anticipate and come forward... It was unfortunate...YES...but a brain fart...hardly...

Re: Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid Mandrake Ganguly and Yuvraj deserved credit for stitching together a 85 run partnership...that was threatening to take the game away... Vasu just doesn't even mention it... He does mention that the knives will be out for DRavid and Chappell...he should know... he and his cohorts had theirs out for Ganguly for the longest time...

Re: Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid Can Ganguly do no wrong? He played a good enough innings but the stroke on which he was dismissed was poor judgement given Yuvraj was dismissed in the previous over, Dhoni was new, and there was the might of Agarkar and Harbhajan to follow in the lower order.

Re: Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid Birbal..I could care less abt what cricinfo or vasu thinks.... Ganguly and Yuvraj were the only ones who scored today....but they didnt bail us out when they were the only ones who looked the part....they cant be isolated from this loss.

Re: Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid It was Ganguly's slow batting that screwed us over. India need to have a clear out soon and get rid of all these old players like Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly and Kumble. Plus drop players who are not performing like Sehwag and Harbhajan.

Re: Our backs are up against the wall' - Dravid In my opinion we contributed ourselves for our downfall by batting very slow. Its quite understandable when the ball is doing something. But after that we're not positive When you play slow (like Ganguly, Dravid, Sachin etc. did today), then the recovery period is long. Even if you've good partnership, you're still in danger. At 42nd over, Ganguly had no choice but not take few risks....Bcos at that point Ganguly and Yuvraj felt that 240 is bare minimum. Playing positive without hesitancy pays rich dividends especially against minnow.
