Lurker
Re: Who is greatest leader India ever produced? If your yardstick is "Leaders are those who create more leaders..." then none of the leaders can come close to JRD Tata. JRD Tata was the visionary of Indian Industry. His hands were tied as he worked in an era when Fabian Socialism was the hallmark of Indian economy. Even then Tatas did not exactly do very bad did they? JRD hand picked the following Business leaders that have gone on to be the best in their area. Darbari Seth (TATA Chemicals) JJ Irani (TATA Steel) FC Kohli(TCS) Ajit Kelkar(TATA Hotels) etc etc. All these are stalwarts in their area. FC Kohli for example is the Father Figure of Indian IT, much ahead of the likes of Narayanmurthy though most Indians would perhaps not even know FC Kohli. Not to mention JRD hand picked Ratan Tata. Amidst a virtual "revolt" by pretty much all of TATA biggies at the time. Look how Ratan Tata has not only proved JRD right but also brought around TISCO so much that it has gone on global rampage now, and of course produced many a first in Indian Automobile industry. JRD Tata was the best. xxx

Simple answer : Ashoka Complicated answer : Ashoka You Buddhist or something? :lmao: :lmao: :hic: Sala bada predictable ban gaya hai tu :hic: You will find that Ashoka has been often quoted as one of the greatest, if not *the* greatest king ever to live in most neutral commentary (ie, not religion-inspired) with only a few candidates worldwide to match his brilliance. Contemporary historians don't even rate Alexander as highly as Ashoka- Kursash the second, Ramses the great and Emperor Wu of China are among the hallowed few to be in the same echelon as Ashoka. This has got nothing to do with Buddhism - everything to do with leadership in state affairs, propagation/progress of civilization, etc etc. As far as i am concerned, the tag 'great' gets thrown around way too much among kings and emperors but amongst Indians, i cannot think of a better candidate than Ashoka. Though i think he is the greatest Indian leader, it by no means implies that India hasn't produced great leaders otherwise. The list of our great leaders is plentiful. Rajarja Chola, Vikramaditya, Harshavardhana, Kanishka, Sher Shah Suri, Akbar, etc. were all superb leaders in their own right. From the modern world, the only ones i'd pick are Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose.

Sure he was a great King, one of the greatest in Indian history if not the greatest, but I can not recall any of his tutelages that went on to become landmark rulers. xxx
