Test opener omitted despite a prolific domestic season Farhat slams selectors again Cricinfo staff August 22, 2007 Imran Farhat launched another stinging attack against Pakistan's selectors, claiming that their bias towards him compelled him to opt out of a central contract and join the Indian Cricket League (ICL) instead. Farhat last represented Pakistan during the Test series in South Africa; he has since been overlooked not only for the subsequent ODI series, but also the World Cup and the tours to Abu Dhabi and Scotland. He was also recently omitted from the squad for the Twenty20 World Championship after being handed a central contract. "Instead of being appreciated, I was put in the list of Future Players Programme that caused me great mental torture. And as if this wasn't humiliating enough, the selectors called me for the Twenty20 camp in Karachi, only to drop me to give another shock," Farhat told Dawn. "Despite being the top scorer at the Patron's Trophy one-day cup and in the Pentangular Cup, the selectors have been considering me as a Test player. They don't know I am also a record-holder of the national Twenty20 championship, having scored 115 in an innings of the second edition of the event in Karachi." Farhat scored over 500 runs in last year's Pentangular Cup, four-day matches played on a league basis, with a top-score of 184 and 242 runs at a strike-rate of over 100 in the five Patron's Cup matches he took part in. Farhat's ODI record, however, has never been convincing, with only six half-centuries and a solitary century to show from 33 matches. In his last 15 ODIs, he has scored 337 runs at an average of 24.07, with only two half-centuries. Link to comment
King
All said and done Faraht has not really done enough to secure a permanent place. Any team can only accommodate 15 players at any given point in time. Something that PCB could have done is give these second string players a decent paying contract so that they can focus on cricket. Otherwise it gets a bit too hard for players not knowing where their next income is going to come from. I have to say Pakistan has had the worst crisis in opening since Anwar quit. Link to comment
MundaPakistani
In almost all of his interviews Farhat keeps referring to his scores in domestic cricket yet doesn't want to talk about his scores in international cricket. Having said that the PAK management should give an extended run to the openers e.g i remember S Butt made a 70 idd at Melbourne followed by a 100 at Sydeny yet was dropped after having just 1 bad test match at Mohali. King Tendulkar
Farhat has no reason to complain. He has been given many oppurtunities and runs. He just has not delivered! Trend now for anyone joining ICL to swipe at previous board they were under eg Dasgupta slating the BCCI for being bias against Bengalis and Razzaq moaning about not being in 20/20 squad Link to comment

Let's face facts Munda - is Farhat really any worse than the other contenders for the opener's position ? Salman Butt[ocks] has done nothing in international cricket either. Hafeez has done fine lately, but is he really good enough to average over 35 at this level ? Why are these guys being preferred to Farhat ? Farhat has done enough in domestic cricket to warrant a recall. Link to comment

Predator_05
Has Imran Farhat ever played a match-winning Innings for Pakistan?? There is no comparison between him Salman Butt. Do you remember Butt´s hundred at Kolkatta' date=' Jamshedpur or Peshawar? He played well in Australia as well where he made his maiden Test Century. So I say the same: "Let´s face the fact, dear!"[/quote'] So scoring a hundred once in a blue moon against India makes him a useful player ? He was a walking wicket at the top order when India played Pakistan last year. They both have the same average in ODI's and in Tests, Farhat averages 33 to Butt[ocks]'s 29. Link to comment

Well Taufeeq Umar averages close to 40 in test cricket yet you will never convince me that he is a better opener than Butt! To me the only reason why he averages higher is because he was given a consistent chance to play some 10-12 test matches in a row..a luxury which Butt never had. Link to comment
