The lack of spinner is still a issue. Tambe is one good spinner, but will he last? And they don't have other options. For most stadiums, you need 3 spinners in your first XI. And then, there is no left handers in their batting line-up, that's another thing to ponder.

^ If Watto plays RR can afford to drop Kulkarni. With Watto finishing the quota and Binny as cover. In his place I guess you can play or try out Ankit Sharma or Rahul Tewatia. Then there is also the spinning option of Hooda. Through the course of the tournament RR will have to try these options out.

As far as RR go they have to make a call on (A) Southee----> Replace with Watto opening the batting. Samson can go back to his regular spot. (B) Kulkarni-----> Replace with another pacer or spinner. Probably a spinner. I also feel they need to make a call on Watto next year. Every year he misses tonnes of matches and the RR franchise suffers as a result. I am pretty sure that Watto is going to sit out till RR lose a game. Even if Watto is back he probably will look to not bowl at all considering that Binny and Hooda are around. These funds of 1.5 million USD can be better utilised all through their squad. This guy literally gets fit off the Royals. RR are a smart franchise and if i was them i would make a trade with RCB for AB and give them Watson. Atleast AB is going to play every game.

Replacing Southee is difficult. He is their best opener bowler and death overs specialist . Faulkner is not good enough to bowl in the powerplay or in death overs. Additional, RR needs to look at their some of Indian batsman. Rahane, Samson, Binny, Nair are all similar kind of batsman. Will take time to settle, and not a power hitters. That's 4 batsman in the top order.

@someone I dont think the RR squad has to depth to replace the 4 you mention. you make a valid point about them being similar sort of players. The Rahane Samson opening partnership is not working out. Maybe Nair needs to open again. Re the foreign players, Faulkner and Smith will not be replaced. Morris has been solid. Southee is the weakest link.

Yep, could be Ankit. Can bit a bat, power hitter, is left hander and a steady spinner. Although, Kulkarni is still a good bowler, should still be given another chance. Overall, RR still need find the 3rd spinner option which would be needed in many later matches

I think RR realizes this problem of their batting problem. last year they had Nayer, Ankit Sharma to solve it by having them as openers and be their power hitters. Didn't work out completely well. And seems this year, again they are only alternatives left. Imo, with those 4 Indian batsman, it means there will always be too much pressure of those 3 Aussies to bring the acceleration to the innings each time.
