Yeah that was a sad day for all of us. The ATGs Wasim and Waqar along with Saeed Anwar had to end their career in a public flogging  I still recall with joy the wonderful remarks of Akhtar how he was going to scare the Indian batsmen with pace and what he was going to do to the Indian batsmen. Sadly one over from Tendulkar was all it took for him to scurry for cover and refusing to bowl the 2nd over  Yup that match at Centurion is etched in my memory... really sad day for the legends. By the way how many legends retired that day?

 

By my count it was 4 - Wasim Akram, Waqar Younus, Saeed Anwar and Taufiq Umar  I'm sure you must be used to it by now as it's more of a passage of right for Pak cricketers to be humiliated on public stage. That legendary cricketer Afridi tried decades to get a solitary win - first as a 16 year old youngster, then as a star player, then as the seniormost player and finally as the captain. End result - humiliation every time on the global stage. Good for him he retired along with other legends as it gets tough after some time, and nearly 30 years is a godawful long time.

But there careers didn't end in 2003  They were the ones responsible for the retirements of all those ATG legends I talked about. In fact if you take Sehwag alone he has finished the career of quite a few ATGs on his own. I recall Saqlain's teesra being hit out of ground multiple times and Gul's career was practically ended in that 2011 WC semi-final where Gul, as is common for Pak players, shot his mouth off but couldn't walk the talk

 

i can imagine how it must have felt for you in 2003 all decked in Pak jersy imagining how the ATGs Wasim, Waqar, Akhtar, Anwar etc. will blow away India and just one over's batting from Tendulkar would've taken the wind off your sails

Thanks for the insight.It was said in jest but ofcourse I forgot Pakistanis dont get sarcasm.To not let this degenerate into Indo-Pak slugfest,on topic Misbah was an average cricketer and defensive captain,as someone earlier wrote right man at right place at right time.
