Haha, a guy scores a not out century chasing 400 + in the 4th innings of a test, and there is no "impact"?  Not denying Smiths "impact" , but South Africa would not have won without that Ab knock, that not impact enough?

 

Btw in the list of top 20 or so highest 4th innings chases of all time I wonder how many Batsmen have scored centuries on two of those occasions... Ab has.

 

If you consider greats of the last 25 years Lara and Tendulkar are in a league of their own. Ab Maybe even a teeny notch below "second tier " greats like Ponting and Dravid: but still a great of the game.

Look I am not denying that it wasn't a good knock but you are trying to label it as some ATG knock that it isn't.  A belter of a pitch where everyone scored fifty plus scores, scoring a century shouldn't be hold in such a high regard.  Heck, Kohli's knock at adelaide would have been several notches had he won the match.

No, I did not say it was an atg knock , I was just addressing the vague concept of impactness. Its certainly not on the level of some Lara classics it won't and probably should not get high on a Wisden best innings listing, but it is part of a body of work that makes Ab a great test Batsman

Keyword here is great, he is not test ATG.
