Tendu_10 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/story/1106290.html big fan of AB the player but hes a coward. for so long he coasted by in Tests hiding behind Amla Smith n Kallis now when RSA need him he has ran away. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
kosingh Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 He's been struggling. His body is tired. Better to retire now from one or more formats than drag yourself past expiration date like eminent Indian cricketers do WC2011INDIA 1
Tibarn Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 In my opinion he should be considered as an ATG in Tests. He averages over 40 in every major test playing nation. Neither Ponting, Lara, or Dravid has done that. Only Sachin comes to mind immediately who did that as well. He has 21 test centuries, and an overall batting average of over 50. What was amazing about his batting was that he could both attack and defend endlessly. karanrudra93, Vilander and MCcricket 3

Agree, don't know what more do people expect from him and criticize him for the lacking what exactly ? Will always remember him as the most versatile Test Bat who could score runs for fun against toughest bowlers and even Tuk Tuk all day to save a Test. Best in both extremes of the game. Cricketics Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Calling a great batsman a coward is disgrace. He knows his body better. He just wants to concentrate on winning the world cup which the country really wants. South African team has won test series in pretty much every country barring couple of places where they will eventually win. They just badly want to win a world cup and AB too wants that. And if he feels he needs to stay away from the test format to be fresh for that, then no harm. Roger Federer too stayed away from few slams and came back to win Australian Open. Resting from the game and taking time off away from the game to get ready for a particular tournament is a very underrated trait, and it does work great for a top athlete who has been on top of his game in all the format in all these years. AmreekanDesi Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Coward of the highest order. Lost all respect for him. GoldenSun and Tendu_10 1 1
nevada Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 By quitting test cricket he is only putting more pressure on himself to win the world cup for South Africa. He should quit ODI captaincy and continue in test cricket till 2019 WC. SUMO and Tendu_10 2
Tendu_10 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 He is a great batsmen. Always like watching his highlights on youtube. Will go down as the greatest South African batsmen. Kallis is much greater. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
wanted_desi Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 These players know when to quit aur humare senior citizen won't even miss playing against Grade C WI side.

I think he suddenly improved from somewhere in late 2000s to be the beast and Mr. 360 we know him as. In 2008, he is still not the best when he played with Bangladesh. His stats from late 2008 are very staggering (almost an average of 59 with 15 hundrends and 25 fifties in 97 innings). http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/44936.html?class=1;spanmin1=17+Dec+2008;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting
Tendu_10 Posted June 27, 2017 Author Posted June 27, 2017 Kallis is a great allrounder. As a sole Batsmen you gotta give it to DeVillers. If this guy was Indian or Pakistani he would have buildings named after him. Some people would sell his pics for huge money. in ODIs AB is better much more entertaining. But Kallis was an absolute monster in Tests over 50 Test tons. in the toughest format Kallis churned out runs like a machine in all conditions. The backbone of the S.A team that rose to number 1. AB is the most talented SA bat ever but id pick Smith Kallis n Amla over him in Test Cricket anyday. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Vijy Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 ABDV did well in Tests, but he cannot be considered an ATG in Tests if his entire career is taken into account, although his average in almost all countries is >40. He had the likes of Smith, Amla, Kallis, etc. batting above him. Having said that, ABDV improved a great deal with bat since 2008 or so and had 5-6 years where he averaged over 60 - during this peak, he was immense; a very complete batsman (like Stewie).

Sooda Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 The guy is a legend, atg in all formats and arguably should go down as a greater test bat than in Odis. Easy to forget some of his great innings, Just off the top of my head- the ton he scored in Australia at Perth chasing 400+ , south Africa should have beaten us in the first test in 2013/14 when he scored a ton chasing 450 .. almost won them the game...the amazing 30 off 200 balls to draw them Test in Australia...

This is a guy who almost played a 100 consecutive tests and some of them as wkeeper for the sake of his team. Even fielding against England in the T20 he was clutching his elbow in pain. He knows he won't be effective anymore in tests. We're so used to our Stars playing well past their sell by dates that seeing a legend step down for a younger player is a shock ss25 1
