The Outsider Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Firstly and most importantly, everyone has to agree to start fresh from this point onwards. Everyone is on a clean chit as of today and we start moving from there. If that cannot be agreed on, there is no hope of finding a solution here because of some stuff said 8 months back or on some other message board etc. Secondly, stuff like fool, bigot, clown, idiot, moron etc. cannot be termed as abuse. Not good language for sure, but action cannot be taken on such stuff and certainly bans cannot be handed out. Mods will encourage people not use such language but it's outside the realm of a free speech board to put a strict ban on such usage. Thirdly, abuse involving family members, sexual references, abusive name calling (I don't need to define it, we all are grown up here to know what's a genuine abuse stuff like ch...ti..ya, MC, BC etc.) will be dealt with in an infraction based system culminating in a ban. Here are my initial thoughts and other posters and moderators can add to it, but all this is of no avail if the decision to start from ground zero is taken consciously.

And trust me, there isnt one instance of the "abuse" you claim that we've missed. Boss has always been quick to report every insult (be it fool or moron or champ) that CC may have thrown at him. The whole admin forums is filled with that. We cant ban posters for calling someone fool. If we start doing this, do you know how many people have insulted me in this board like that ? I'll have to ban half the board. Do you remember your own comments the other day on Dhondy ? Did we ban you for that ? You'd like us to be Hitlers ? Its important to get the definition of 'abuse' right. There is a diff between calling someone ch..tiya and calling someone a fool, would you agree or not ? And abuses involving loved ones or making sexual references or even worse. It is when such abuses are hurled unprovoked, moderation comes into play. (And we did ban CC twice for such comments) Cant moderate every little needling comment posters indulge in. If you guys think, any poster indulges in abuse (as per the above definition) report it.

Forum rules are common sense at the forefront which unfortunately many people lack, and so we have to keep on making policy changes to keep this place civilized.

CC on the one side and BB, DR and Sandtest on the other, promise to totally boycott each other from here on. Its not that hard to do, if the guys involved are really interested in making this place what it was originally meant for - a free board meant for open discussion.
head coach Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 It is usual tendency and immature on posters to attack on a personal level when you hear something that you disagree. If you can't find a respectful way to express your difference of opinion, then you're better off saying nothing at all. I have had several instance where posters attacked me on a personal level when they ran out of ideas for a counter argument. If you know you are making a right statement then time to make your point and move on; no need to hammer it in; They will get it may be not now but definitely in future! Happy debating!:yay:
sandtest Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 I once again re-iterate the ROOT cause of problem is CC....i am afraid it will not last long since we can restrain ourselves but CC will not. If a rule can be made by which neither CC quotes our post nor we give a look at CC things will be fine and much better.

I feel sorry for your wife 2. For a man with kids, you spend a lot of time on this board Are these acceptable? If not, why has the poster not been warned so far? If warned, why does he continue to do so?

If warned, why does he continue to do so? He has been banned twice and such references are constantly discouraged/edited/deleted and the poster has been warned on several occasions.

I don't think petty insults can be controlled with bans etc. They can be discouraged to the extent that the posts with such remarks are edited/deleted but bans and infractions cannot be handed out for such instances.

Calling someone a retard in real life will get your teeth re-arranged in real life ... it should be the same here on the MB . This is not a place to act out your wild fantasies. Yes I am no saint myself but its hard to restrain when people go beserk. That was pretty much what I wanted to convey ... didnt work by talking thru pyaar and patience but whatever ..... Hard to implement such regulations. If we start banning people for such insults, EVERY member of the board will be banned. Show me a poster, who hasnt called someone an idiot ?

Lurker Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Some more thoughts: 1) Learn to walk away. Many a times in an unsavoury situation I will just walk away from a thread. Why would I spend my time uselessly fighting with another person on MB is beyond me. 2) Do unto others as you would want them to do to you. If you dont want to be tagged right winger you should also refrain from calling someone communazi. It is strange to see word like psec, pinko etc not only being a part of discussion but header(title of the topic) as well. 3) Lastly lets try to come with original articles/thoughts rather than quoting headline news ad-nauseum. Isnt it disheartening to realize bulk of us spend time debating someone else's ideas? Why not develop our own brains instead?
