Manohar to Hayden: Did you hear Harbhajan call Symonds a big monkey? Hayden: I didn't hear him, but I heard Symonds say "Did you call me a monkey?" So I told Harbhajan "that's the second time you have said it. It's racial vilification."
I say! This is ridiculous! There is no worth in his or Clarke's confused testimony whatsoever...they heard monkey, but apparently from Symonds mouth accusing Harbhajan of calling him monkey...no wonder it was quashed! This whole matter is high farce.

Dhoni was not cheating. He was being a poor sportsman. Michael Clarke and Ponting cheated because they were breaching an agreement with the opposing team. It's not that difficult to understand is it?
Agreement or no agreement , I don't know how you can claim that it is not cheating to claim bump catch ? Remember Rashid Latif got banned 5 matches for a similar offense and that effectively ended his career. Dhoni clearly cheated in this particular instance , in my opinion.

No ban even if Bhajji called Symonds monkey: Judge Justice John Hansen, who heard Harbhajan Singh's appeal against the 3-match ban imposed on him by match referee Mike Procter, did not just conclude that it can't be proved Bhajji had called Andrew Symonds a "monkey" or a "big monkey" as was alleged by the Aussie and his teammates, he went much further. Hansen wrote in his judgment that even if these words had been used, Symonds could not take offence to them as racial slurs given that it was the latter who first abused Bhajji and provoked him. In short, in the Kiwi judge's assessment, Symonds was more to blame than Bhajji. In a ruling that seems to be backed up with rigorous reasoning, Hansen also revealed that he had been unaware of three previous infringements of the ICC code of conduct by Bhajji before he announced a penalty of 50% of his match fees. Hansen said he might have awarded Bhajji a harsher penalty, particularly if he had known of a November 2001 incident in which the offspinner was handed out a suspended one-Test ban. The written judgment devoted several paragraphs to refuting speculation about the outcome of the appeal being the result of a "deal" between BCCI and Cricket Australia. "It is incorrect to suggest that there was some sort of an agreement reached between the Australian and Indian cricket authorities that I simply rubber stamped," Hansen said in the judgment, delivered a day after the oral verdict. The judgment provided detailed arguments supporting the conclusion reached by Hansen. It included the full text of the statement of facts agreed upon by players from the two sides. The very first sentence of that statement makes it clear that the incident happened after Bhajji made friendly contact with Brett Lee. Hansen pointed out that anyone observing this incident would take it to be a clear acknowledgement of Lee having bowled well. Yet, Symonds took exception to it and at the end of the over, abused Bhajji. He recorded that when Bhajji's counsel V Manohar asked Symonds at the appeal hearing whether he had any objection to the offie's pat on Lee's back, Symonds responded with: "My objection was that a Test match is no place to be friendly with an opposition player." To this, Hansen observed: "If that is his view, I hope it is not shared by all international cricketers. It would be a sad day for cricket if it is." On the charge itself, the judgment noted that the hearing did not go merely by the agreed statement of facts, but involved depositions by and cross-examination of all relevant witnesses. It noted that it was not without significance that both the Australian players involved apart from Symonds — Mathew Hayden and Michael Clarke — insisted they heard Bhajji using the "monkey" word but neither heard anything else. In fact, Clarke even claimed he did not hear Symonds say anything, contrary to Symonds's own admission that he initiated the exchange and was abusive to Bhajji. TOI

Stats don't tell the whole story' date=' do they?[/quote'] Maybe not the whole story.... but it still paints an intersting story..... .. especially considering that Indians feel that Time Wasting and Ball Tampering are not 'serious offences' is laughable because these acts are far more damaging to the 'spirit of cricket' than any racist sledging (that goes for both Australia and India)

From the transcript, if indeed it is true, How many here believe that Bhajji told the words " Teri Maa Ki" and not the word "Monkey". Honestly, I dont. It is very strange for someone to abuse another person in a language that the second person person doesnt understand. The whole point of the abuse is lost. Delving a bit deeper, any person would speak in his mother to a person who doesnt understand it, only under extreme provocation and if he is extremely angry. Seeing from the videos, I dont find any evidence of Bhajji being extremely angry or animated, rather, he seems in a retaliatory mood, wanting to give some "goodies" back to Symmonds. Now, would he have done that in Hindi ? Or English ? Make your own judgments. Another revealing aspect of all this is, Symmonds had this to say to Bhajji's counsel, Now, why would Bhajji fall silent had he really not uttered those words " Big Monkey" ? Besides, I really dont see why 4 of the Australian players would simply cook up charges to get Bhajji into trouble. My assessment of this thing is, Bhajji did say the word " Big Monkey", but has been let off because of lack of evidence, as simple as that.
It is quite likely that he did call him a monkey but also remember that he is a regular abuser and doesn't need to be in a fuming mood to utter those disgusting words.

you seem to ingore one important fact. the "regular abuser" was taunted by the "poor victim". if you want to say "f you" at someone unprovoked, be prepared to get all sorts of responses back, racist and otherwise.
