bunny
Dhoni averages 36 compared to Karthicks 32. Considering Karthick is 22 and 4 years younger. And also has had to open the batting which is far harder then coming in at 7. I believe Karthick should now replace Dhoni and have a good run in side. Karthick did very well opening the batting and showed in many innings a lot of class I agree that Karthick has a great potential as a middle/late order batsman. But he has to go back to Ranji and work on his keeping. Maybe he needs to opt out of ODIs for the time being. Link to comment
The Outsider
:hysterical::hysterical: We don't want a world record holder for the number of byes as keeper. Dravid would have kept better than Karthik at Bangalore. Link to comment
King Tendulkar
Some of Dhonis performances for India with the gloves have been terrible. He has improved no doubt. But dont write karthick of based on one game. The same could easily have been done for dhoni. Karthick is a quality keeper. One game does not make you a bad keeper Link to comment
The Outsider
When Dhoni creates close to creating a world record, come back dsr. Link to comment
King Tendulkar
What about Dhonis batting in tests? Satisfied? He has looked poor! Link to comment
The Outsider
What about Dhonis batting in tests? Satisfied? He has looked poor! Yes, he had poor series with the bat but has out kept all keepers he has come up with over the past few series and is miles ahead of Dropthiv and record holder, Karthik. I'll take 15-20 runs less from a keeper if he is not letting the Pontings and Haydens multiple batting opportunities. Link to comment
yoda
his batting was pathetic. he had no clue while he was at the crease with balls going all the over the place. let's hope it was a one series fiasco. Link to comment
Dooks
I think he should be replaced or at least given a break in tests. But is the blue eyed boy of the BCCI as he won them the T20 cup. He WON'T be dropped. They are not going to drop vice-captain and the future captain in tests. Personally, I would have PP as my wicktkeeper/bat but I think his chance has gone now. PP is certainly better than KKD. Sad really. Link to comment

Dhondy
There! One bad series and the wolves are out. Typical OTT reaction from Indian fans as usual. BTW, his keeping has been superb. You hardly notice him, which is the mark of a competent wicket-keeper. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
You hardly notice him if you're not paying attention to his keeping. ;) His footwork's been superb this series. Some of the dismissals he's pulled off have been amazing. The stumping of Clarke in Perth? Leg break ripped and kicked from a good length past chest height. Most keepers wouldn't have come close. Dhoni took it with such ease that most even didn't realize just how much it had kicked and turned. Great anticipation and movement, and a superb stumping that's as good as I've seen. The Gilchrist dismissal in the first innings there? That was a first slip catch, but he moved across so quickly that he made it look like his own, and made it look far easier than it was - despite the lift RP got and the pace. Among keepers on the international circuit, he's probably up there in that top bracket with Jayawardene with not too much other competition (with Boucher's work starting to fade a fair bit now). Guest HariSampath
How come no one is addressing the points I have raised to show Dhoni is NOT a failure as a batter in tests in recent series. As a keeper/batter he has directly played a batting role in 5 out of 9 tests and his batting has contributed directly to Delhi and Perth test wins and has salvaged a draw at Lords. Any issues ? King Tendulkar
Any issues ? Yeah I have an issue. An average of 17 this series and top score of 38. Link to comment
Ram
I think Dhoni's performance in this series can be put perspective best by this stat, AC Gilchrist (Aus) 4 7 0 150 55 21.42 When was the last time Gilly averaged so less in a home series ? I think Dhoni did fine, his keeping was outstanding, his batting looked a bit uncertain for sure, but dont forget, he was an important reason why we won our previous two test series against Eng and Pak. But for his performance in Lords second innings and Delhi first innings, the year of 2007 wouldnt have looked so impressive. We need to show a bit more patience as cricket fans. Link to comment

Gilly averaged more then dhoni and was so dissapointed by his performance he retired! We have two very good keeper/batters in the wings waiting. The heat is on dhoni big time! If not for his celebrity status would his neck be on the chopping block? I think yes! Link to comment

diegovegaz
with brad haddin n micheal hussey, did australia once dropped gilchrist? gilchrist's average against india is quite low, but he is still their keeper similarly, with runs not in his basket, but good glove work, dhoni will continue kaarthick has kind of forgotten to keep wickets, remember the test match, india vs pak 2007, what a torrid time he had the pitch wasn't that bad that he wud create a world record of byes parthiv patel may b interesting 2 watch Link to comment
Guest HariSampath
Yeah I have an issue. An average of 17 this series and top score of 38. Those are stats...can you kindly address the following FACTS: 1. Dhoni, with his 70+ notout , saved the test match at Lord's for India 2. Dhoni scored more than KKD in the Oval test ? 3. Dhoni's inngs of 57 contributed immensely to India's win in the Delhi test against pakistan ? 4. Dhoni got quickfire 50s and 30s when India wanted to declare at Kolkata against Pak ? 5. Dhoni's inngs of 35 , was made in the Sydney test in losing circumstances, when all the top batters had been dismissed ? AND we lost that test ( we all know how and why) ? 6. Dhoni's inngs of 38 was under extremely critical batting crisis at Perth, we were 124-5 and Dhoni was extremely helpful in taking us to 235-7 till he was batting ( the 100 runs in 2nd inngs probably contributed big way to result, Perth test win) ? Please answer with simple YES or NO to all the SIX test match inngs that Dhoni had contributed to, in his last 9 tests ?? So as a keeper/batter , the question is whether he has contributed enough in tests , last few tests ??? NOT as a specialist batter or specialist keeper/bunny batter...as a Specialist KEEPER/BATTER who has kept brilliantly and FAR ahead of other keepes ( apart from batting). some answers pls ? King Tendulkar
I am not writing him off. Just seriously think he should be dropped. His cult status is keeping him in at the moment. I seriously think Karthick is a better test batter and is capable of getting tons. Was so impressed with Karthick opening in england he was superb. He would be great at 7 Link to comment
