Bhuvneshwar, Yohannan, Manish named in RCB squad 03/10/2009 The conclusion of the selection trials for IPL side Bangalore Royal Challengers saw some new names announcing their arrival on the scene. These include Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Uttar Pradesh and Tinu Yohannan of Kerala who last played a international in 2002 in the second test against New Zealand at Hamilton. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was UP?s most successful bowler last season in the Ranji trophy picking up 31 wickets who will be joining state mate Praveen Kumar to handle the bowling department. Other additions include Manish Pandey who played for the Mumbai Indians last year and Saurabh Bandekar from Goa. The Royal Challengers had earlier acquired Robin Uthappa from Mumbai Indians in exchange for Zaheer Khan. Gaurav Dhiman also made the move from Mumbai to Bangalore. Pankaj Singh who played for the Rajasthan Royals last season was also picked up by the Vijay Mallya owned side. Pankaj had begun his cricketing journey here in Bangalore. Players from Karnataka who were part of the side last year are all set for an encore. These names include veteran spinner Sunil Joshi, batsmen J Arun Kumar and Bharat Chipli , keeper Devraj Patil, medium pacer R Vinay Kumar and young spinner KP Appanna. With the IPL?s most expensive acquisition Kevin Pietersen shifting his feet over his participation in IPL-2 ,the Royal Challengers management has a tough task at hand choosing their captain. The names of Rahul Dravid who was the captain last year is away in New Zealand , and Robin Uthappa who led Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy are doing the rounds and needless to say it will be a tough call to take. -------------------- any info on the new guys?

from cricinfo-(Gaurav dhiman) ccasionally a player comes along who has the X-factor, the ability to turn a game single-handedly. From what little we have seen of him so far, Dhiman has that quality. Batting is his major suit and he is a fierce striker of the ball, with more than a hint of Virender Sehwag, or even Shahid Afridi, in his make-up. Throw in his nippy medium pace, and ability to get the breakthroughs, and he is an enticing prospect for the future. A blazing 56-ball 74 against West Indies in this year's Under-19 World Cup demonstrated his ability; now the challenge before him is to add responsibility to abundant talent and rein himself in when he needs to. i think we acquired him from Mumbai.

from cricinfo-Bhuvneshwar Kumar In his 11th first-class match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar registered his name in history books - by consigning Sachin Tendulkar to his first first-class duck in Indian domestic cricket. Although Uttar Pradesh, Bhuvneshwar's side, lost that 2008-09 Ranji final to Mumbai, Bhuvneshwar's season was one big gain for UP. Bhuvneshwar is a right-arm medium-pacer who has the knack of extracting movement both ways with the new ball. His pace is not threatening, but he makes up for it with the movement. Barely two weeks after his 17th birthday, he made it to the UP senior side, after having spent two seasons with the Under-19 side. In his second season, he did well enough to regularly get the new ball ahead of either RP Singh or Praveen Kumar. His five-wicket haul in the 2008-09 final was a vindication of that trust. In his second first-class season, he also came through as an important lower middle-order batsman, making a jump from his usual tailender slot in junior sides.

Nobody calls us a Test Team now -- Mallaya

MUMBAI: Induction of England batsman Kevin Pietersen and New Zealand's Jesse Ryder, besides the city-lad Robin Uthappa, has helped the IPL franchise Bangalore Royal Challengers shed its tag of a Test outfit in Twenty20 cricket, owner Vijay Mallya said on Thursday. "Last year, our team was called a Test team but with players such as (Kevin) Pietersen, (Robin) Uthappa and (Jesse) Ryder in the squad now, no one calls it a Test team anymore," Mallya said. Mallya's team was criticised by experts last year for lacking the firepower required for Twenty20 cricket as it ended up seventh in the eight-team contest. Pietersen is to lead the team till he is available to do so after which star South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis would take over the mantle. The liquor baron said that his team had five home-grown players and their familiarity with conditions in South Africa, where the second edition of IPL is to be held from April 18, will stand his team in good stead for the battles ahead. "We have five South African players in our team, apart from former South Africa coach Ray Jennings. They are well aware of the conditions in that country and this advantage should work in our favour," he said. The quintet of South African players - Dale Steyn, Jaques Kallis, Mark Boucher, Roelof Van der Merwe and Dillion du Preez are among the RCB's ten foreign recruits. While admitting that the shifting of IPL to South Africa would cause some financial losses to the franchise, Mallya said he was confident that the cricket board would make up for those. "The event is sure to cost us but I am sure that the BCCI will do something about it. Holding the tournament in such a short time was a challenge in itself, the 'hisaab-kitaab' can be done once the tournament is over," he said. Mallya hoped that shifting the venue of IPL to South Africa will not hamper the viewership. "About 95 per cent viewership of IPL is TV audience. It is unlikely to suffer as the BCCI has adjusted the timings of the matches as per the convenience of Indian audience. "IPL going overseas is a lot better than missing it altogether," he said.
He sure does have a lot of his hopes pinne on Robin Uthappa. Wonder what makes him think Uthappa is a winner

Zaheer is very good bowler, but the fact is that no bowler did stunning performance in IPL matches. So that won't be a matter. Ryder is big addition while Kevin is not worth the money. But they miss misbah thats big blow to them
