ganguly wasnt tactically that gr8

in Aus 2004 sydney test, he didnt declare n we kept batting for 2 n half days with 700+ on board

in 2005 pak home series whole team came out n started blocking every single ball after sehwag got out

We were ahead in WI n Aus away tour yet ended up loosing in WI n drawing in Aus

in Chappell saga he was to be blamed equally

Agree, Ganguly wasn't great tactically, we would have won Sydney test even if he had bowled irfan more on final day..but that was the fear of that Aussie batting line up with Gilchrist at 7 + India having forgotten how to win overseas....Kohli has shown even worse tactics like dropping Rahane in SA, nonsensical talk of batting strike rate in tests and 'intent' which clearly screwed up Pujara, even Vijay and further confused  KL, Lords selection, going defensive against likes of Curran, almost screwing up Adelaide test on final day, refusing to blood Kuldeep against Aus at Ranchi (we never should hv let aussies play out 100 overs on last day). And Ganguly never screwed up in ODIs with middle order like Kohli has done... In a comparative exercise, Ganguly is ahead of Kohli as captain on most parameters, except Kohli's fitness and fielding setting a benchmark for the side. Ganguly deserved to be booted out in 05 and came back a better player by late 06 because of it. Likewise, Kohli has shown he's unfit to captain in LOIs, let's see if BCCI now has the cojones to replace him with Rohit, a far better LOI leader, and who knows, if Rohit can continue his Test opener form, maybe he should captain in all formats!
