Dhondy Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 More than a year has passed. Some star players like Bheembhai and Dada have been snapped up by other franchises, and new faces have joined the ever moving caravan that is ICF. It's time for the next match, folks. I dropped in to my fellow doc's place, the learned Observer, for some tips. He doesn't speak much, our Observer bhai, except when he is speaking in Kannada. Less gifted people had to make whatever they could of the little nuggets of wisdom he dropped in his monosyllables. "Morning, Observer". "Morn." "I was looking for some pointers on who to select on the two sides for the forum this year. Any ideas?" "Split" I gave this considerable thought. This was obviously an utterance fraught with enormous wisdom. I tried desperately to give it the meaning it clearly deserved. "You mean, split the team in two equal halves?" "Lump the rubbish, split the rest". The bristle on the back of my unwashed neck stood to attention. Here I was, at the receiving end of erudition of the highest order. Would you just look at the way the man used his words like rapier! I had to delve further. "And who would you say are the hoi-polloi?" "Kanna-kanchavallai Bangalore Bengalluru Rassam enda endinada dynamic hip screw er-keeeeeeyl grafty grafty grafty mysore coimbatore liverpool". I sat there, stunned at the fusillade of knowledge that had just hit me, albeit in a language that was somewhat alien to me. I had to decipher this, I just had to. I opened my Kannada-Maithili dictionary and blanched slightly. What Observer bhai had said in lilting Kannad was "Your Dimness (oh well, at least he was offering me some respect in keeping with my status on the MB, or was I missing something?), as long as you and other murine creatures (now what did "murine" mean, for goodness sake?) are on the other team, I couldn't care less" I had to thank him for his insights. This was top drawer stuff. "Bye, Observer bhai. It's been a previlege picking your brain". "Ta". (To be continued)
Dhondy Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 Editor's note: Dhondy had once defined "bipolar depression" in the MBBS final exam as sadness spreading from head to foot. I urge all of you to be tolerant with "his dimness" as he tries to rustle up the forum teams My next stop was Harisampath or Hari, as he is popularly known. From the day he had joined, I had been in awe of him. I had sent him several PMs, trying to find out how to get my nephew onto the Indian Administrative Service through the back door (damn, he was even thicker than me, if that's humanly possible..must be made of basalt...errrm... granite), but sadly, had not received a single reply. Hari was smoking what looked like a Fidel Castro cheroot ( Editor's note: it was a Havana cigar) and reading a book that had some naked women on the cover. "What are you reading, Hari-bhai?" (Since I spent some time on a Pakistani forum, I had picked up this rather deferential habit of calling everybody "bhai"). "Oh, it's just a book on giving up smoking". I grinned. I told my mom stories like that too, growing up. Hari was a man after my own heart. "I was wondering if you'd like to be captain of the newbies team for our forum cricket match?" Hari turned the book over. On the back cover, a man was doing something strange to a lady. I caught the title out of the corner of my eye. It was "Bachelors Behaving Badly." ( Sorry folks, gotta play with junior. Somebody take the story forward).

Sheesh, that almost sounds like kannada to someone who doesnt know the language:haha::haha: Hope to read more, on this thread!

I am touched to see you had held me in awe from day one, although coming from a self confessed dimwit it may not be the greatest form of flattery for me , the sentiment is nonetheless appreciated as it accomplishes the purpose of establishing I am not at the very bottom of the ICF capability ladder, in the very least. Regarding that nephew of yours, the lad did come and meet me ( he had to wait a bit as I was advising the sultan of Bruneii that it is far easier for him to make his kingdom a cricket nation than making his son an international cricketer, and you know how these sultans are). But the nephew of yours is far better material than his uncle and was in fact remonstrating with you for suggesting a career so much below his potential. He in fact seemed to see a darker motive to your suggestion and said "uncle seems to see my career as an IAS officer as the only way he can get a posting in the UP state govt as a venereal disease doctor, which is far too high for him anyway". I sternly instructed him on respect for elders, reprimanded him for his insolence, but saw his viewpoint with some sympathy especially as the much maligned nephew did have talents that uncle couldnt recognise. Apparently nephew feels he has estimated uncle far better than vice versa. I had in fact explored the youngster's career interests, and he seemed to be inclined towards selling weed and peddling porn, arguing correctly that at the very least he would have me as one minimum customer for the former, and his uncle as one minimum customer for the latter. I happily encouraged him, and I think he is quite a success now ( he does seem to have inherited some crook genes at least , possibly from uncle as I gently pointed out to him the eternal values of being grateful to elders , as they do pass on something to the younger gen) What you saw me reading was the first edition of his absolutely illegal and filthy porn mag, and what appeared as a havana to you was in fact me trying out the completely original weed strain created by your nephew, both named after you as a tribute to that great uncle who shaped his career, although not quite the way it was intended. btw, your nephew says he would get you the posting of choice in the UP govt anyways, as quite a few IAS officers are life patrons of his projects . And regarding the youngsters cricket team, I cant be captain as my playing days are behind me and I dont want to block other youngsters, however I would be coach.....and naturally, it would have to be a high amount bidding to get me as the coach....err I do have that option with the sultan of Brunei whom I have convinced to try and make his country an official member of ICC...so please call me after I return from the ICC annual meet :--D Great thread, btw...I will get around to read this later :two_thumbs_up:
Dhondy Posted May 20, 2008 Author Posted May 20, 2008 Saala, I go to great lengths to get interviews with people like Observer, and nobody even reads it! Match cancelled.
Bumper Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 Saala, I go to great lengths to get interviews with people like Observer, and nobody even reads it! Match cancelled. I told you, we should be doing a T20 league. What good is a forum cricket test match infront of IPL ?:D
Mr. Wicket Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Or starting a forum T20 match as per Bumps' suggestion? :--D
Lurker Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 WOW! Has it really been 4 years? Time sure flies. Lurker looked around the crease. The umpire at square leg looked nice. Wonder if she was from Bombay? Maybe he could ask her out for a drink afterwards? Lurker had a very high opinion of Bombay girls, as Bihari men often do. He also had other curious habits. He had wanted his name underlined in the team sheet. Lurker felt that people were wont to miss the important bits unless you drew a line under them. Now he drew his bat forcefully over the batting crease- another faded line that needed reinforcing- and asked Shailesh for guard. (to be continued) Great stuff Dhondy, if you still reading this. Bahut gaur kiya aapne, khaas ke my taste for Marathans :--D
