Shoaib's ban and its aftermath Ashraf files defamation suit against Shoaib Cricinfo staff May 2, 2008 More trouble for Shoaib Akhtar © AFP Already banned by the Pakistan board for five years, there was more bad news for the beleaguered Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar as Nasim Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB, filed a Rs 22 crore (approx US$3.37 million) defamation suit against him. Shoaib had alleged on a TV show that Ashraf had demanded a share of his salary from the IPL. He also alleged that Ashraf had tried to extort money from other Pakistan cricketers as well. Shoaib later retracted his claims and also made an unconditional apology for "any grief or embarrassment that may have been caused to the nation, particularly to the PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf". Tafazzul Rizvi, the legal counsel for Ashraf, filed the suit in a civil court in Lahore and hearings will start from Saturday. Ashraf had earlier served a legal notice that called upon Shoaib to "retract" his statements against him, and "tender an unconditional apology". The notice also sought damages of Rs100 million (approximately US$1.6 million) to Ashraf for "defaming him personally" and another Rs100 million to the PCB for "sullying the name of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Pakistan Cricket team." © Cricinfo http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/story/348423.html this just gets funnier and funnier :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ipl/content/current/story/349846.html Indian Premier League Shoaib can play IPL only if ban is lifted - Modi Cricinfo staff May 3, 2008 Shoaib Akhtar's IPL future now rests with the Pakistan board © AFP Shoaib Akhtar will not be allowed to play in the Indian Premier League despite being cleared by the Pakistan Cricket board, IPL chairman Lalit Modi has said, putting to rest all the speculation over the fast bowler's participation in the tournament. Shoaib had been banned by the Pakistan Cricket Board for five years on charges of indiscipline, but a PCB panel confirmed he was free to play outside the country. "Our stand is clear," Modi said. "We will adhere to domestic guidelines of any country's board. A player can play only when his country clears him. He can play only when he is cleared and eligible to play for his country." Shoaib was signed up by Kolkata Knight Riders for US$ 425,000 but was barred from appearing in the tournament by the IPL council "in the interests of international discipline" after the PCB banned him on disciplinary grounds last month. A Kolkata spokesperson said that the franchise would abide by whatever decision the IPL council took on the issue but would "obviously be pleased" if Shoaib was cleared to play. The PCB is due to make a final ruling on Shoaib's five-year ban in June. © Cricinfo :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: if akhtar cant play in IPL then where will he get the money? :hysterical::hysterical:
