Mainly talking about films from the silent era and films released when talkies were gaining traction. Which are your favorite films?

Below is my top 7 based on 1 film per director/series and in the order of release:

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
Nosferatu (1922)

Haxan (1922)

Sherlock Jr (1924)
Metropolis (1927)
Man with a Movie Camera (1929)
City Lights (1931)

the ones you named are all classics. there were many outstanding films in this period, perhaps even more so than in first 2 decades of sound films... most of the great directors started their careers in this era. only a small selection of my favs are given below:

A trip to the moon (1903)

Cabiria (1914)

Intolerance (1916)

The Outlaw and His Wife (1918)

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

Nanook of the North (1922)

Greed (1924)

Sherlock Jr (1924)

The Iron Horse (1924)

The Saga of Gösta Berling (1924)

Battleship Potemkin (1925)

The Gold Rush (1925)

A Page of Madness (1926)

The General (1926)

Metropolis (1927)

Napoleon (1927)

Sunrise (1927)

The Crowd (1928)

The Wind (1928)

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

Man with a Movie Camera (1929)

Blackmail (1929) * --> both talking and silent versions exist

Pandora's Box (1929)

Piccadilly (1929)

The Docks of New York (1929)

Un Chien Andalou (1929)

Earth (1930)

City Lights (1931)

I have named XI instead of 10, like a cricket/football/hockey XI:

Intolerance (1916)

Battleship Potemkin (1925)

A Page of Madness (1926)

The General (1926)

Metropolis (1927)

Sunrise (1927)

The Wind (1928)

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)

Pandora's Box (1929)

City Lights (1931)

I Was Born, But... (1932)

on a diff day, however, I may name a different set of 10 films from my extended list in my previous post (or even some not in that bigger list).
