Pitch conditions | the role of the media

Recommended Posts

Following a woefully under-prepared pitch that severely challenged both teams' batters, surprisingly, media outlets failed to analyze or discuss the conditions before the game. This oversight prompts speculation on whether such leniency will extend to refraining from criticizing otherwise sporting pitches in the subcontinent. The unusual silence from media houses raises questions about their consistency in scrutinizing playing surfaces, particularly in cricket-crazy regions. Will this incident reshape the narrative around pitch assessments, ushering in a more balanced and objective approach? Only time will tell if this anomaly signals a shift in how sporting pitches are evaluated and discussed in the future.

Or is this a strategic move, potential mind games orchestrated by team management(via their media mouthpieces) to divert attention towards pitch conditions before important games and series.

Or could it be a deeper issue with the prevailing attitude within certain sections of media and cricket intelligentsia, questioning whether there is a reluctance to critique pitches elsewhere compared to cricketing venues in India.

This incident underscores the intricate dynamics between teams, media, and the cricketing community, revealing the nuanced factors influencing the discourse on playing conditions. Cha mudaye media mind games.

I guess it is easier to predict that a pitch would spin

I agree with that, but the reality is every host board preps pitches according to the strengths of their side. No one is asking them not to.  The problem is whining when India prepares a spin friendly track. In this day and age not every Indian pitch is a Chepauk like turntable. So the criticism should be objective, but that's apparently too much to ask for. So I called it out.

This minefield too would have been passed off as decent if not for our bowlers making the most of it. Also had KL not dropped Markram, things would have been over for the Saffers way earlier. I wish it had been the case.
