coffee_rules
http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63335.html WIth a D4 lost in rain, WI chased 172 in 25 overs to win the first test. This one too could have been drawn, but for some fiery hitting by IVAR. Losses to WI wouldn't hurt so much then, as much as losses to Pak. Link to comment
Lurker
I thought about this game when I was going thru the Indo-Pak scorecard the other day. If I am not mistaken this particular innings of IVAR forms the introduction of his Autobiography. He details quite vividly how he went after Indian bowlers specially Venkat and Amarnath. coffee_rules
I wonder why Kapil Dev held back Maninder and RJS. Well, wasn't this Kapil Dev's first test as captain? He must have been naive to think WI wouldn't go for the target in 25 overs. Link to comment
Lurker
Yep looking back it does seem like a tactical blunder. Then again it was probably too over before one could realize. This particularly game has merited quite a bit of mention by IVAR who almost went to the length of saying he did it for his people. IVAR did come across as quite proud(which is not bad really) but what peeves me every now and then is how he would keep raising his racial pride one way or the other. Maybe it was a sign of times(mid 70s to late 80s). And yes you are right that this was Kapil's first Test as captain. Good call there CR. Link to comment
