Yes. That is how he has evolved in these 2 years and all the credit to him. I would have never thought in 2008 that Vijay would present himself as a candidate for ODI. He just looked like a wonderful test prospect then. But the way he has scored is Ranji also is very creditable.

In making a pool for ODI, yes, especially after failure of Vijay in the Emerging players' tournament. Even Dravid is useless to me for making a pool for ODI players for 2011 WC in 2009

The way Vijay played in the domestic tournaments, didn't even make him a prospect for ODIs, till last year's Ranji and even Vijay Hazare trophy, even if it doesn't mean a lot. And do you know anything about A matches? Vijay had gone to Australia in the Emerging Players' tournament and had failed there miserably. Kohli was the one who had starred there. You can dig out the thread for that and who did well and not so well there, if you wish. It is here at ICF. And tell me about the test knock of Vijay which he played before August 2009 to show his calibre of being a good ODI prospect. I must be unaware of that knock!!

Wouldnt undergo a sea change per se... just replace Pujara and '?' with Vijay and Dhawan IMHO Im a bit loathe to start thinking the younger guys are ready for ODIs based on their IPL performances. Itll be good to give them another FC season at least.

I won't drop Rohit from the pool of 25, though I may not include him in the 15. IMO it should be: Sachin Sehwag Gambhir Yuvraj Raina Rohit Yusuf Nayar Kohli Dhawan Rayudu Vijay Dhoni Karthik Saha? Or Patel? Zaheer Ishant Munaf RP Singh Sreesanth Irfan Tyagi Nehra Bhajji Ojha Mishra The most confusing is the seamers' part. Everyone apart from Zaheer is rubbish. Who to keep and who to discard? I'm willing to wait and see how Vinay Kumar goes against international teams, if he gets an opportunity. Munaf seems to be finished now and so does RPS. But then, who can replace them? Mithun? Don't know much about how he'd go in LO matches. What do you all say about the pool of 25 players?

Badri has been India A's star for a while. He averages close to 200 in India A matches. But he looks out of depth at the international level. May be he has a different dimension that is not coming out at the highest level. Vijay has been constantly evolving. He started as a boring opener who could score 40, 50 runs then he converted them into slow 100s occasionally then he became little more consistent. Finally he has reached a stage where he can dominate bowlers. His career progressed smoothly. You really would love to have players who grows constantly instead of getting stuck. He is a good test batsman. Not sure if he is good enough to be in the ODI squad. But he is in very good form.

Badri averaging 200 for India A? No way. You must be saying this once again using the stats Guru only which would not have included BP XI matches or Emerging players' toournaments which send India A as well, albeit have different names! I will certainly include Vijay in the pool of 25 for ODIs now and quite sure that Srikant would do that too.:winky: I hope he gets few opportunities to prove it. Badri's chances for ODI at least are gone, in my opinion.

vvs - I am puzzled by this theory that Badri looked out of depth at international level. How can a 50 and a 0 scored in the first Test demonstrate to anybody what exactly the depth of talent is with this guy? I can tell you right now that Badri has far more solidity than Murali Vijay. Vijay is a strokeplayer and is a spiritual successor to our own VVS Laxman. He is now the toast of the season - good for him. Badri has a more useful role to play in Test matches.

Getting beaten and hurried against Steyn's pace on Indian wickets. Didnt attempt any attacking shots against Steyn or Morkel in his 50 as far as I remember and by the look of it, didnt have the time to. Maybe its just nerves, maybe he needs time to adjust but struggling against Ishant, Tait, etc count against him.. Vijay on the other hand had a lot more time to play the ball in the same test and hasnt been dismissed due to inability very many times. He got worked over by Morkel a bit but handling that is more of a mental issue than lack of ability..

After reading your posts about Badri, I'm curious to know what qualities you see in him which, you think, will make him a good test player. Can you list his qualities which you find in him?
