Not really no, drew against WI in 95-96, then drew vs. SL just a year or two later, drew vs. NZ in 99, lost vs. SA in 2K—the match "fixed" series! In 98 there was no McGrath, and SA were almost as good as Oz, in patches, but in 2001 they were on the road to being an ATG side!

Now this may seem hypoerbole, but their real aura started after the Symonds innings vs. Pak in the 2003 opener. Had they lost that, there's at least a 50/50 chance they'd lost the WC as well, and they would be nowhere near the dominant force they were in ODI ever since
