Bumrah and youngsters deserve better from BCCI and selectors

How long are we going to continue with Rohit and Kohli in the side? Seniors and experienced players are supposed to lead the way, guide the newbies, mentor the youngsters, lead the team with their experience. But in Team India it's the exact opposite! It's the youngsters who are forced to do the hard running and carry the so called experienced stars. Jaiswal and Reddy are doing it here, it was Mayank Aggarwal who did it in 2018, Sundar, Gill, Shardul, Nattu did it in 2020-21, Jurel & Axar delivered did so against England at home. Nearly every time we have played youngsters, they've delivered.

 

It's not as if it's a recent phenomenon. Kohli hasn't done anything since 2019 and Rohit was never a Test player but is somehow captaining the side! They were the reason we were whitewashed at home for the first time in our history, and as a reward they were selected for Aus series where they're continuing the trend of holding the team back.

 

And the sad part is we have a once in a generation pacer in Bumrah who has been forced to do way too much. No other team in history been saddled with such pathetic non-performers like Rohit and Kohli have been for such a long period. I feel for youngsters and Bumrah. Forget getting support from the so called "experienced" players, they're supposed to carry the team and are scapegoated in case things go wrong.

 

So what exactly are we gaining playing two has beens and saddling the team with the two corpses? What value do Rohit and Kohli add to the team? Why aren't our domestic performers and youngsters like Sai Sudarshan, Rinku Singh, Jurel, Sarfaraz given their shot seeing how the other youngsters have performed. Just look at our T20 team and see what youth can do.

 

If we had 2 performing youngsters instead of Rohit and Kohli, we would most probably be leading the series and there's no way we lose BGT. We are a de facto 9 man team with Bumrah and youngsters carrying the team on their shoulders. Pity BCCI and our selectors don't have the balls to do the right thing and provide Bumrah and youngsters the support they deserve. It's unfortunate that a generational pacer in Bumrah will end with less ICC tourneys and Away series wins compared to his Aussie counterparts due to lack of support from his batters, especially the seniormost ones - so called "King" and "Hitman".

Agreed and would like to say..we are 8 men team..pace bowlers apart from Bumrah should count as half and half..

That's another issue but not as big as the Kohli-Rohit one.

I see it as a major issue too..we dont have a competitive bowling if we take out Bumrah..

These both issues need to be addressed Asap.

That can be managed coz once you take out the incompetent senior batters you can bring in another bowler. Also we need to bring back Bharat Arun - he was our "fast bowler whisperer" and doesn't get enough credit.

ya Bharat Arun should be back..

as far as adding one bowler is concerned..I wante dto highlight that it doesnt matter even if we have 5 pace bowlers..I am looking for quality..and its not teams issue..its BCCI issue..and need long term addressing it..

Batters seem to be primarily team issue..as some options are there but as far as bowling is concerned..I dont see enough grooming and vision by BCCI..

 

we lack accurate penetration apart from Bumrah..

 

Aus had Starc Cummins Hazlewood..and even the replacement Boland was accurate and penetrative enough..

 

we just had few individual contributors who lost against a team..

 

I feel batting probably may be addressed soon enough..but bowling is looking a problem long term..unless Harshit is groomed well..Umran comes back with a bang..and Mayank becomes injury free..

I need one more penetrative pacer minimum to support Bumrah..

Siraj,Akashdeep,Mukesh,Avesh,Arshdeep may not do the job for us..
