Ultimate_Game Posted March 23, 2025 Posted March 23, 2025 (edited) Back in the day when I used to play cricket as a kid, and if we ended up with odd no. of people and the teams couldn't be divided evenly, we had one player who could bat for both the teams. The technical term for the said player used to be "beech ka bandar" I suggest Impact Player rule take inspiration from the same and make it mandatory for all teams to only bring in Thala as the Impact Player. Thala is the elderly statesman of not just CSK but all of IPL. Thala transcends teams, fan bases, and even such minor things like wins and losses. Whoever came up with the saying "Cricket was the true winner" was wrong. The more accurate saying is "Thala was the true winner" and IPL has to make it happen. The Indian public, and the world in general, demands it! Think of a glorious future when a team is about to win, the batting team either retires hurt or runs out one of the batters, and in comes Thala as the Impact Player. Maybe he should be rolled out the same way Rahane and Patidar were rolled out before IPL's opening match, or maybe a chariot would do. The crowd goes wild, commentators are able to get their eulogies out, and the sponsors get their money's worth. Win-win all around. And the bonus would be for bowling team to bowl a full toss or half-tracker for Thala to hit a 6 as the winning shot. This gesture should replace the useless "Fair Play" award. The team allowing Thala to hit winning runs gets a point with bonus for getting hit for a 6. And to make things even more interesting, and add more cutting edge innovation into the mix, the next step should be for Rohit to be that floater/player who bats for both the teams. He can come in, score a duck or a few in PP overs and then sit out the entire innings to do the same for the other team. These two simple changes will keep everyone happy, and will keep IPL as the undisputed leaders of innovation. Entertainment at the start of an innings, entertainment at the end, and even cricket for hardcore fans in the middle. A mid-innings dance performance by Jay Shah can be the cherry on top. That's what kept me on tenterhooks, whether Thala will finish off the match with a 6. Added another layer of intrigue and suspense
