i think Yousuf is from one woman...and irfan and the girl is from another...
Then they can perform a Nikah!! provided the boy and girl are consenting and MALE witness is available. Mark the word male, Islam do not consider woman to be worthy over male as witness!! It's a fact under Sunnah! *ducks for cover from feminists*

Zubin, there is a lot of influence of Islamic culture upon day today life of Dharmic people of India, due to our history. You given an example of South, let me point an example of North. In UP and Rajasthan -- from where Islamists invaded India, even today marraiges are performed in Night time!! Why? Reason is, during those time we North Indians were ruled by Islamists, and under Shariah law any prayer practice other than Islam is discouraged. Since Hindu marraige requires Havan, Yagna etc, to avoid, conflicts with Muslim rulers, our ancestors in north India started performing marraiges in night --- and from their on it took the form of culture. While in South hindus you can still see the marraiges in broad daylight!
Why so now?...Isn't it a time for change? We SI are blessed in that regard.

Manu-Smriti strongly discourages incest marraiges! Even science has proved that marrying among close relation may lead to genetics related diseases after a generation.

Because we UP-Rajasthan were the first to be invaded by islamic raiders, in a way we acted as gateway for entrance of Islam and as a buffer state. South Indians got lucky due to geography!

From what i've been told, Cousin marriage is very common in south India. In general it seems North Indian Hindus dont marry their cousins. However, if you look in the scripture you will find a few rare cases of cousin marriage amongst the Kshatriya Kings eg. Abhimanyu the son of Arjun married Subhadra, His First Cousin and the Sister of Lord Krishna. Also, Arjun's Grandson, Maharaj Pariksit also married his first cousin. But it seems these instances were quite rare and only done amongst royalty for political reasons. (while the muslims do this generation after generation....).

Actually DR, Last month I was in UP to attend my cousins marraige. There happen to be a Vedantic scholor from Allahabad University, who accompanied Seema Dwivedi, the ex-MLA of BJP in our area. This question I asked him, in presence of all. Even he admitted this thing and pointed that "Shubh Muhurtam" for marraige can easily happen in broad daylight. I still wonder, what is preventing our UP people to revert back to their original Vedic practices! At least take a leaf from South Indian Hindus.

Actually, you can find examples of Kings, marrying in relations!...But that cannot be considered as "DHARMIC" practice. Atharva Veda and Manu-Smriti in Hinduism are considered as source for Marriage rules. They both prohibit Incest marraige as "adharma".

Our history has strong Marxist influence. After independence, many history chapters were carefully re-written or wrapped under tha carpet by historian to deliberately suppress the Nationalism among Indians and disgusting that it was done in the name of generating "Social Harmony". have you ever wondered, why Marxist historians like Romilla Thapar and present day Ramchandra Guha are fecilitated with many awards and praises by West and Middle east?? because they did the greatest favor to them by suppressing the history of India -- the most impostant history on planet and thus inhibiting gung-ho Nationalism among Indians. There is a reason, why we should hate British and USA sometimes!

Medically, its not advisable to marry a first or second cousin. In fact, you should stay away from family as much as possible. Many sects in Sanatan dharm do check for 'gotra' (origin of family) before marriage. If Gotra is the same, then the two people are descendants of the same origin and hence they should not marry. Medically its considered wrong because the possible gene conflict can result in complications in child birth and can result in a physically or mentally underdeveloped off spring. Cousin marriages are usually allowed to help a community grow...specifically when its in minority. I believe Islam and several other communities initially allowed this to help their community grow in countries where they are very low in number. If cousin marriages are not allowed, the minorities wont have a choice but marry outside. However, I believe its the parents' responsibility to avoid it as much as possible. I have a Muslim friend who fell in love and married his first maternal cousin. I learned at that time the reason why its more frequent than it should be. The conservative environment does not allow them much frequency with same religion females outside their family. The outsider females stay in veils and do not communicate much. Therefore a young boys and girls automatically get emotionally involved with where the exposure is: in the family. My friend apparantly did not have a friendship with any other female of his religion. His uncle used to frequently visit them and the cousins spent some time together. Both did not have much interaction with the opposite sex of the same religion. They naturally fell in love and got married. Their families were happy and so were they. Some Indian and Hindu communities also do the same. It was explained to me by a friend whose community does allow cousin marriages. They strictly dont do it anymore because they are now educated, advanced and understand the complications. But he was explaining why it is allowed- to allow the community to grow.

Oke majority of conservative background people from rural india do not interact with female members beyond their sibling/cousin.. I don't see them falling in love and indulging in incest..

Because these people know that its not an option. They dont even think on those lines....they simply cant. But A Muslim grows up knowing that a cousin is a practical option.
