Tilak and Ruturaj should not be part of our ODI plans

We've seen enough of Tilak and Ruturaj and it's time selectors open their eyes and make the call. Tilak is not a ODI player and struggles big time while stalling the innings. He simply doesn't know how to rotate the strike and bat in the middle overs, which is majority of ODIs. And Ruturaj is just like KL - hint of pressure and he struggles. He's probably meant for bilaterals.

 

I've seen Tilak bat in ODIs for India (he played 5 matches) and in Ind A series. India were 140/1 after 10 overs with Sooryavanshi scoring a mind-blowing 94 off 29 deliveries! Then Tilak happened along with Ruturaj and we gave up all momentum. SL were on the ropes and mentally finished and yet Tilak & Ruturak tuk tukked with no boundaries at all for the next 7-8 overs. They sucked all the momentum and brought SL back in the match. At one stage it looked India may not even go past 320! It took our all-rounders in Ankul and Vipraj to take us to take us to 370.

 

And this is what we've seen Tilak do in ODIs where he strikes at below 60! And his List A stats clearly show that he struggles in the format where he averages 40, which is less than what SKY used to average! Selectors are making the same mistake which they made with SKY and pushing Tilak in ODIs when he's a T20 batter and is being pushed in ODIs on the back of IPL and T20. There're better ODI options available in Padikkal, Sai and Rinku who all have better performances and know how to bat in the ODI format. It's time selectors finally realize the truth and let Tilak improve in domestic cricket.
