LONDON: Delhi is the cheapest city in the world for parking while London has earned the dubious distinction of being the costliest place for the same, a study indicated on Wednesday. In Delhi it costs less than a Pound (Rs 86.4) to park a car per day. The monthly rate for a space in London tops the list at 586 pounds - exactly double midtown New York, according to the first global study of parking charges. Close behind is the West End, where monthly rates for motorists are 568 pounds. Daily parking follows a similar pattern, with the City costing 34 pounds followed by Amsterdam, the West End, Moscow and The Hague. Australia has some of the most expensive cities in the world for parking as a result of its strong economy and surging currency. Sydney is the third most expensive city on a monthly basis at 387 pounds, while Brisbane and Perth make the top 10. Regions such as Latin America, Africa and the Middle East are relatively inexpensive but are showing signs of car park inflation which is becoming more structured. However, global financial centres dominate the list, compiled by Colliers International, a property consultancy. "Whether to park for a day or to have access to parking any time during the month, the world's top financial centres are among the most expensive in the world," the report said. Link
:scooter: Its a problem in delhi actually. Since parking is so cheap people dont bother using public transport. :driver:

Parking kee badee samasyaa hai Bambai mein. People use all tricks to get a free parking space....a new mall opened at link road, initially allowed vehicles inside assuming that all are shoppers. Soon they found many people using their huge basement and open space to park and then walk away from other side :haha: Now they demand shopping bill at exit.:D

When infinity mall started on linkroad, they allowed free parking. It took a day or two for the word to spread and soon people from all around started parking their cars there. A lot of people would just park there and take an auto. Soon the mall realized the mistake and started charging.:D

been at my university for some time, and i had accumulated over 1000 bucks in parking violations... when i realized that a tenth of the cost of the car, and half its operating budget was paid in paying fines, i took a different route. i sold the car, and now drive a different one to school... this one is not registered with the university since i never bothered to buy a parking decal with them... thus they can give me all the ruddy fines they want, all the tickets, but since their database does not list my vehicle, they cant do a darn thing... been parking in the second most expensive lots for over a three years without any retribution!

i recall once my mum parked her car in the central market region of delhi... the name escapes me. in the car, under the front seat was about 75000 in case wrapped in newspaper. when her and i were shopping, we heard an anti theft alarm go off... and when i turned the corner to see that it was indeed our vehicle being towed, a shudder passed through me... my mum was mortified! three hours later when we got our car back, we noticed that the money bundle had been discovered, and astonishingly it had not be removed! later i would have a similar incident some half a decade later when in the middle of the afternoon my car was towed from a commerical area of houston while i was meeting my gf, a day before i left for india... in the car was my laptop, my digital camera, my pocket pc, 1500 bucks in travelers checks, my passport and my last paycheck... walked down the freeway in blistering may heat for eight miles in slacks, sandals and dress shirt till i found the place where they towed my vehicle to, only to learn that the towing fine must be paid in cash. the closest atm, about a mile further down the road would permit only 20 bucks in withdrawl per transaction before slapping a 2 dollar fee... had i not been enthused about leaving for india the next day and some midafternoon, office room nookie, i would have killed someone.
