Why is Irfan pathan still in the odi team?

I dont mean to be mean, but come on, he hasnt perfromed well in the last year apart from that 100 in pakistan where even Yuvi got a 150. He shouldnt even be in the odi team, as we have too many good seamers which are better than him ie sreesanth, zaheer, ishant, praveen , Rp and even the likes of gony or even patel will get ahead of him. He may get odd wicket but generally is still expensive, but sreesanth you say might be, but he gets more wickets. Not just his bowling but his batting isnt that great either compared to others. If he comes as an allrounder or batsmen in the team, he wont succeed. The likes of gauti, viru, yuvi, MSD, raina, sharma and badrinath and tendulkar. His batting average is 24 which is kind of low. He is still young, and hopefully get better, but for time being, stop putting him in odis as hes not wanted, and he doesnt have a good positive aggresive apporach or even swinging deliveries as much. The sooner hes back for ranji the better as hes getting more unfit and less reliable in odis compared to other players in the squad.

he needs to forget about his batting for a while, just concentrate on his bowling cuz Irfan can be really useful.

Irfan's biggest assets were always his swing and accuracy. He was a never that quick. Sure, at his peak, he could consistently clock in the 137-138, with the occasional one snucking past 140.. But when he lost his form and fitness, the swing deserted him and more importantly, his pace dropped to a shocking 117-125 kmph sometimes. After he made his comeback, there are signs that the pace is coming back, or atleast recovered partially. Nowadays, most of the times, he is between 128-133 kmph, but mind you, given that the swing hasnt come back yet, that still isnt good enough. But without a shadow of doubt, his biggest bug-bear has been the shocking loss in the accuracy of his bowling. Lotsa balls full outside leg, short outside off, are characteristic of of his typical spells these days.
