I understand Pathan hasnt been playing well, but considering this is a bit of a batting pitch ... Picking part-timers is a big risk. Id probably have picked Irfan and bat him at no.7. At least his batting is still pretty good, and as a bowler he is less risky than Raina, Yuvi, Sharma or Badri.

He is harmless on helpful pitches, what can he do on a batting wicket?

Would u rather Irfan bowl , or would you trust Raina, Yuvi, Sharma and Badri to bowl 10 overs ... thats assuming your mainstream bowlers dont get caned enough to bowl out their 10 overs (in which case, guys like Yuvi and Sharma may have to bowl 5 or 6 overs ... on a batting wicket). Huge risk IMO. Irfan is at least a recognised bowler.

Irfan has been bowling like a part timer anyway so it doesnt make any difference .. at least it sends out a message to IKP

I dunno, if we get a total of around 250, i think thats gonna be very hard to defend with 10 overs to bowl using part timers. If one of those was Sehwag , id be a bit less worried.

Why do India always play extra batman in flat track? It's made for batmen. Even two or three batmen are enough to score 300 in flat track. Why not have extra bowlers? Did India not pay attention to Marvan Attapatu interview ?

I know ... flat track means u need extra bowlers ... because part-timers are gonna be a big risk. We're seeing now that Yuvi as a batsman is as much of a risk as Pathan as a bowler ... lol (if not more)

The way we are batting it seems like a big risk going in without 7 batsman. Heck at the moment we need 11 batters

Yea ... if our batsman are struggling, then its highly unlikely 7 batsmen is gonna get us to 300+. More likely that we'd scratch our way to 220 or something. In which case, 4 bowlers wont be enough.

Bowling Pathan is worse than bowling part timers. Whats the use in the end? Patha gives away runs and picks up a couple of tail end wickets. How can the part timers do worse than that?

The thing is ... if your batsman are struggling ... then the key is not to pick more batsman. 6 batsmen and an allrounder should be enough. Besides, Pathan was only given 1 game this series and bowled 7 overs for 35/0 , and 5 overs for 21/1 ... I dont think the part timers can do that.
