Don't blame the oldies only

But our so called great youngster fielders are dropping them as well. Especially, the much hyped Dhoti and also Gautam Gambhir. From cr@pinfo: Despite the threat that Harbhajan provided - he should have had Katich caught at short leg for 5 but Gautam Gambhir dropped the chance - it was the fast men who delivered the early results. So, don't blame the oldies *alone*. Basically, we need to overhaul the whole team and get our fielding coach to get these guys practice much more.

I know ... The media do more harm than good in India ... Aust didnt have to play many mind games leading into this series because the Indian media did that for them. They are burying their own team. Heading into this series would have been the perfect time for the media to rally behind the Indian team and present how strong the Indian batting line up is, and that would have really put these young aussie players under a lot of pressure. Instead, they have singled out the oldies, added extra pressure on them ... and made them feel as if every match, they are playing for their careers. At the same time, nothing is being said about the fact that Dhoni hasnt done anything significant in Test cricket for a while. If we're gonna criticise ... You cant just single out the oldies and drop them all at once.

Dooks' date=' everyone drops catches and Gambhir is not a specialist Short leg fielder. We need specialist short leg fielder.[/quote'] exactly.. its not tht he dropped a sitter or something.. the reaction time is 0.48 secs.. its easy to say from here.. its amazing how people here support the oldies no matter how poor they are recently..

pepsi bhai, relax even at 36 Dravid has great reflexes. Some fielding positions are for specialist. Gambhir is not short leg specialist. You have to get up quickly when you are fielding at short leg. Yes the reaction time was 0.48 sec, but specialist fielder like Katich, Chopra, Kaif would have snapped it. He lacks basic technique.

Don't even compare catching of Rahul, Tendulkar, Laxman, Kumble and Ganguly to the youngsters. They can't hold a candle. These 4 guys are as good as anyone can get. Not often do you see these guys dropping catches. Ground fielding is a different thing though, these guys barely can move in the field and more often than not there's an extra run available when hit to them. Definitely not suited for ODIs but not bad for test cricket. We haven't really seen any brilliance from the Aussies in the field. They have missed a lot of close run out chances and have missed underarm hits at stumps from short distances.

Don't even compare catching of Rahul' date=' Tendulkar, Laxman, Kumble and Ganguly to the youngsters.[/quote'] Rahul, Laxy and Tendulkar (i guess) I understand -- but Kumble and Gangs? I've seen Kumble pull off a few good ones at Gully, but not all that often. And Gangs? he doesn't drop many because he doesn't get to many

He keeps a low profile as a catcher but has safe hands. I haven't seen him drop many at gully. He saved couple of fours in this game too at gully. Ganguly is a good catcher whether at slips or at outfiled. Don't you remember the fantastic catch he took in Sri Lanka running backwards at mid wicket? You don't see him drop catches often.
