the harddisk is Western Digital make and its 250GB.. it was working fine.. since last 4 days, I keep getting this porblem.. "" No drivers are installed for this device. " what do i do now?? is my harddisk dead?? but i see the light in the HD.. so im not sure.. i have very important data in that.. how should i make it work now?? pls techies help me.. Thanks in advance

The pc talks about drivers because it can not recognize what has been plugged in. Since it does not recognize that its a hard disk, it would naturally assume that its some unknown device and would look for drivers to operate. The reason most probably is that hard disk has gone bad- either crashed or just went bad. The reason could also be that the USB pluin has gone bad. Take it to your hardware vendor. He is the best guy to advise you.

Sounds like the disk got corrupted somehow - corrupted partition table, damaged boot record, or missing root directory information. Or as Domaink said, it could very well be a bad USB plug also. I think there is some software that you can download to recover data from a failed hard drive, but I don't know for certain. Sorry :(

Thanks all of you for the suggestion.. I managed to find a program..its basically to retrieve the drive.. but still it dint work properly.. and then magically my harddrive started work when i plugged it in again.. :D so im happy, relieve dn burnt the data into a dvd immdtly.. lol.. I don't think he is talking about a flash drive.....
I know, but my external HDD has same issue..I downloaded those drivers and it recognized it
