Test cricket at his best

Past 2 weeks we have seen some great test matches. The game has gone into 5th day and you were not sure about the winner. England v/s India Australia v/s RSA Now Westindies v/s Newzealand, two bottom teams. This one is humdinger too and Gayle is playing masterclass. If we see this sort of test matches more often, the crowd will come back. Hopefully we will see close games more often.

crowd will have to first start watching on TV. Even on TV, they watch only ODIs and T20s  As far as getting crowd in stadiums, it seems like India has to go miles and miles to improve stadium facilities - even many ICF-ers who are hardcore cricket fans seem wary of Indian stadium conditions. Crowd wont increase until this is done.

hhahahah fineleg, you don't know anyting do you. After IPL all the grounds have great facility Did you even see new Nagpur stadium, world class facilities. Did you see Ferozshah Kotla, world class Most of the test venues have good facilities.
The stadium's look will never attract the crowd. Mohali being the 'world class' stadium has terrific offering for the teams that visit PCA, but what do the crowd get ? A hard concrete to sit on. Do you seriously think crowd would come out in number to sit on a rock for 8 bloody hours ? They'll have to do a 'Saif'(Dil chahta hain....Saif sitting on a pillow after getting a ride in a truck from Goa to Mumbai :D :giggle:) when they go home. Most of the ICF-ers would go to cricket match in India (if they are in India) because I think we all are cricket hungry. But locals would hardly visit the stadium after their 3-4 visits, hence the decline in number of spectators. Its hard to sit on the rock for 8 hours x 5 days than 8 hours x 1 day or even better option is 4 hours x 1 day :D

Fineleg is not wrong. A big reason why there has been poor attendance is that people are not feeling comfortable going to a stadium. The standards have to be improved.
then explain why the same stadiums are fulll for ODIs r Twenty20s... lack of crowd is not due to stadium.. its due to 5 days of test cricket (borefest)

Pretty stupid by Zuby actually (not that we expect better from zuby) 5-day cricket and enduring it for that much time is a lot more difficult compared to 1 day or few hours in T20. Infact ODI may also decline due to T20 - since few hours is more tolerable in poor seating conditions at ground.

Not that BCCI are not upgrading the grounds, but there are too many grounds in India and upgrading all of them at once is not possible. It will take at least 3-4 years for all the grounds to have proper facilities for the crowd. D.Y.Patil stadium has good facilities (holy and some of my friends have been there) but the crowd and team complain about the location of the ground. Traffic in Mumbai makes a 20 minutes drive from the team's hotel to the ground to a 45 minutes drive. So location of the stadium are also important...I am guessing most of the stadiums are just built without considering this factor.

no' date=' people come to stadium for entertainment and excitement. If there is enough excitement they will show up inspite of bad facilities.[/quote'] yes, some will show up, but there are others who expect a decent standard atleast at the stadium. if stadium facilities for public are improved, chance increases to get lot more attendance.
