King Tendulkar
So this Mcdonald is there next cab of the rank, there next batsman. Looked average. Short innings were he got smashed in elbow, smashed on helmet resulting in lid flying off and then out in weak fashion. Plus he had ginger hair Is he the best they have. The aussie decline is indictated by this chump. Link to comment
Lord
too early to assess him.morkel bowled fantastically to him.n next delivery after he got hit,he played comfortably.that is true test.even the best batsmen can get hit, nothing wrong in that.its how u play the next ball which matters Link to comment
Chandan
No. He is not the next batsman. He is the next all-rounder after Symonds and Watson. He batted terribly, no doubt, but let us see how he bowls before assessing him. Link to comment
Chorazin Reto
Yeah he's an all rounder after Symonds and Watson, i thought they may have gone for Hopes or Henriques, but i guess they decided to give Mcdonald a shot as he has been performing well domestically. Link to comment
SachDan
McDonalds is not a frontline batsman. He was primarily drafted in to the side as an all-rounder to fill the gap left by the injuries to Symonds and Watson. His First Class record for an all-rounder is not that bad.Over 2000 runs at an avg. of 38 plus and 94 wickets @ 30. Link to comment

Unfortunately, McDonald didn't look like one frontline batsman, even if batting at 6, but remember, even Duminy went for a duck in his first inning at Perth. Link to comment
The Outsider
Guys, it's another wind up thread by dsr though a bit more subtle. PS : McDonald did indeed look pants out there. Link to comment
Kashmir_boy
Aussies really need new batsmen hayden and hussey out of form and ponting is inconsistent as century then duck. clarke and katich are in form and should keep it up, maybe they need players like roger, jacques, david hussey and stuart clark back and no brett lee! cochise
PS : McDonald did indeed look pants out there. He looked like Ronald McDonald out there with the bat. And he is considered a replacement for Symo/Watson? You got to be kidding. Let's see his medium pacers later, but I doubt they will be much good. Hi FC stats are hardly a stand out...I am not sure what the selectors are up to here...may be there is a real dearth of all-rounders... Anyway, let's see Ronnie bowl and give him the benefit of the doubt till then. Link to comment

Hi FC stats are hardly a stand out...I am not sure what the selectors are up too here...may be there is a real dearth of all-rounders... Anyway, let's see Ronnie bowl and give him the benefit of the doubt till then. I've seen him play in the Aussie domestic matches. His bowling is also pants - infact if I were to choose one discipline of his I would pick his batting. I don't quite understand the Aussie obsession with having to select an all rounder which started after Ashes 2005. They should really be playing a specialist batsman at number 6 like most teams if they don't have a genuine all rounder which they clearly don't. Or they can even consider playing someone like Ashley Noffke who is a genuine bowler and a decent batsman. Haddin, Noffke, Lee(when fit), and Johnson can be quite handy numbers 6-9 and kind of make up for a missing number 6 as a unit given the extra teeth it will give their bowling. Link to comment

True...if they were going with an all-rounder, Hopes would have been a better choice anyway. But I agree, they should play a bowler who can bat decently...their tail is strong enough already. By the way Johnson was apparently a good tennis player before he took up cricket...hence he has got a good swing, timing and hand-eye coordination...that is why he can bat well. Link to comment
novpj
A few observations on the current Australian team: a) underperforming big name players b) lack of trust in top and middle order leading to bits and pieces players being selected (eg., Cameron White) c) lack of stability in bowling attack (15 different test teams fielded in a row) d) overlooking injuries in the hope to quickly fix the problems (Symonds) e) deteriorating fielding standards f) overly cautious batting. This looks similar to Indian team of old. Dont think Aussie talent pool is that deep thats why they are flailing like we used to do. Link to comment
