LUCKNOW: BJP vice-president and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh on Tuesday announced that he has resigned from all party posts. ( Watch ) “I was being humiliated by the party. I have faxed my resignation to L K Advani and he must have received it by now,” Kalyan Singh said in a press conference. He said he has never compromised with his dignity and will not do so in future as well. “I was feeling suffocated in the party,” Kalyam Singh said. He said he will not form a new party and will not accept any other party’s membership. “I am not resigning from active politics,” Kalyan Singh said. He clarified that he never asked for party ticket for his son or some of his supporters. Kalyan Singh said, “No one consulted me while preparing a poll candidates’ list for 80 constituencies. I just wanted Bulandshehr seat but they offered me ticket from Etah, which I have returned to party president Rajnath Singh.” His decision to quit the party has come barely as day after Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh’s statement that Kalyan Singh’s son was welcome to fight Lok Sabha polls on SP ticket. According to PTI, Kalyan Singh was once the Hindutva face of BJP and was the chief minister when the Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992. He has been miffed with the party for nominating Ashok Pradhan, sitting MP from Bulandshahr seat. He has accused Pradhan of sabotaging his son Rajveer Singh's chances in the assembly elections two years ago from Diboi seat in Aligarh district. BJP rejects allegations BJP has however rejected Kalyan Singh’s allegations by stating that he has sided with the opponents. “Kalyan Singh has joined hands with those who are our ideological opponents,” party leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said in a press conference.
Maybe he realized that its between Mayawati and Mulayam now

It is a relief for BJP. Kalyan's son sold his soul long time back to Amar Singh in lust of money. A few years back during Jila Parishad elections his son was even seen campaigning for SP goons. I have huge respect for Kalyan for his courage which he shown during Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Only if he could have kept his personal interests aside, he was a great asset. I hope he doesnot play Nonia-OBC caste card to further damage his credibility. Anyway, UP is clearly polarized on caste and Islamic appeasement. I will say, BJP should rope in Mayawati and form an alliance. May be include her in central government if elected on some decent position. This will be huge boost in breaking caste barrier and might set a foundation stone for other states in uniting Hindu samaj.

That's a shame Kalyan Singh cud havemade sthg out of his life but it seems it was nto to be.. Meanwhile another person with dubious antecedent match fixee MohD. Azharuddin gets drawn towards UPA . Azhar mian will fight election on congress ticket

Kalyan Singh is a param ch****. Cant beleive this guy was once so popular in UP. He seemed like a good man but nowadays he is no different from political oppertunists like Ajit Singh. He does however have a point that many senior leaders - Uma Bharti & Madan Lal Khurana included - have been shunned by the BJP and that has obviously hurt UP more than it has benefitted them. Also can not help but wonder how Mayavati and Mulayam now are 1-2(or 2-1) in UP. It used to be a BJP bastion. Clearly UP BJP needs to do some introspection.

:haha: Consider this as the first signs that BJP is truly stuffed in UP in the coming LS elections. He clearly sees the writing on the wall, vis-à-vis, a potential sweep of UP by BSP and feels its in his best interest to abandon a sinking ship. My prediction is that BJP will do well to win even 25 seats, out of the possible 85 in UP. And reg. this guy, he is a number 1 hypocrite. I forgot how many times he has left the party, only to shamelessly come back after a while. And BJP kept entertaining him, every time he was upto his antics. No wonder they’re in such a big hole in UP.

IN UP nobody has chance against maya/mulayam..... it's nothing new .. This certainly have been royal screw-up job by BJP .. used to be 50+ seat state for BJP.. only salvation is that congress is royally screwed for long time to come in the state too

UP/BIhar still remains ridden in socalled conventional elctorla dynamics ( read caste politics).. The day brahmins deserted BJP in UP its goose was cooked.. Even in Bihar Nitish Kumar is going to come of as much bigger party BJP will come croppers even there.. Reason here is in-fighting.. virtual cold-war is on between Sushil modi gang and Chandra-Mohan Rai gang.. In fact CM Rai's follower wantyed him to float another party but the guy has idelogical attachment to the party so certainly won't go that way.. He is classmate of Vajpayee and loyalty runs deep.. yet the very fact that CM Rai has been treated badly despite being the most efficient minister is not going down well among 7% of bhumihaar votes particualrlry in north bihar..

The only difference is that Cong. will probably tie up with SP, while BSP is almost certain to form a third front. They’ve already propped up the central govt. after the Left withdrew support after the nuclear deal. No party/coalition can form the central govt. without major gains in UP. That almost rules out BJP from LS elections this year.

I agree. I also would like to remind you how I kept saying BJP, specially Bihar BJP, is NOT above caste-politics. I hope you see the point now. Coming to Bihar BJP they are led by a bunch of no-gooders. Pound for pound Nitish and Laloo are both yards ahead of Modi and Rai when it comes to popularity. Sure there is a caste angle to it but even a forward caste person would vote for Nitish and never for Rai. The other day Shatrughan Sinha said he would contest from Patna and that absolute un-important fellow Rajeev Pratap Rudi jumps in saying nothing is official as of yet. Go figure.

Kalyan Singh's term as the CM of UP was unmitigated disaster. The level of corruption reached insane proportions even for a state used to the likes of Mualayam and Mayawati and every aspect of civic administration took a hammering. It's no surprise that the BJP's decline in UP coincided with Kalyan Singh's term as CM and it's too simplistic to blame their decline on just caste politics.

The question that bothers me about Indian politics is ki "between BJP and Kangress Chu_tiya Kaun aur Chaman Chu_tiya kaun"?? And with third front options being only the likes of Mulayam, Mayawati, Jayalalitha toh desh ka beda garak!! Mera Bharat Mahan:hatsoff:

I kind of concur that guy most have screwed royally.. Caste equation alone can't do this kind of damage.. If I remmeber correctly people were pi$$ed that board examination were stirctly being held sans cheating.. Once hardly 12% students passed.. Mulayam said he will drop "nakal-adhyadesh" and people voted for him.. so corruption of people too is to blame

That was just one of the things and while nothing wrong with it in principle, cheating was made into a criminal offence so anyone caught could be thrown behind the bars with a criminal case against him in the teens. It was a completely draconian law, more so in a poltical hotbed like UP where it was exploited by many to settle personal scores to have other people's kids thrown in jail.

I was in UP when this change happened . I remember every dalit & muslim openly supported SP - BSP and even JD at that time. It was more about Ambedkar or Babri masjid than anything. Also BJP failed to pick right candidates in majority dalit-muslim areas which did not help. People are surprisingly happy with what Mayawati has done in UP and thats why come this election her party will win more seats than ever before.

UP deserves Mulayam/Maya.. just like Bihar deserved laloo
