In a brief meeting with Obama on Friday, Vaiko discussed about a book being authored by him on Obama and lauded the Democrat for his dynamism. "Your dynamism and charisma have touched the hearts of people in remote corners of the world, crossing the barriers of the continents," an MDMK release, quoting Vaiko as saying to Obama, said in Chennai on Saturday. The draft of the book, Yes, We Can also earned an autograph from Obama, who signed, "Vaiko, Yes, We Can," the release said. The book details the "courage and determination (of Obama) to fight for the cause you cherish, as a student, as a community organiser and as a Senator," Vaiko told Obama, the release said. God knows when this meeting may have happened.. It may even have happened before Barack was declared the Democratic candidate.. So nothing to really shout about I guess.

His family was originally from Vadavannur,Palakkad, Kerala, but his father had migrated with his family to Sri Lanka Jayalalitha - Karnataka (She was born in Mysore as Komalavalli) Periyar - EV Ramaswamy (is he from Andhra? dunno - Ramaswamy Naicker) And ofcourse Rajnikant - Karnataka

Vaiko and Vijaykanth are Nayakars or Naidus , Telugu speaking people native to TN. The rabid anti-Hindu EVR is also from the same community, in fact so are all the mill owners of Coimbatore. They are descendants of the polygars chieftains who were awarded lands when the Nayaks took over TN after the fall of the Vijaynagar Empire. The problem I have with them is this, they espouse Tamil causes, they are senThamizh speakers and talk the political talk, they are vociferously anti-Brahmin , anti-Sanskrit, yet they too are endogamous and they still cling on to Telugu at home, they also garner most of the Telugu vote in the Southern districts. If they are such zealous Tamizhans the hypocrisy is blaring.

Dravid was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh into a Maharashtrian Deshastha family living in Karnataka. His paternal ancestors were Iyers from Thanjavur.He grew up in Bangalore, Karnataka.

Yes they speak a language called Namdev Marathi, in fact this community number around 70,000 and are found around Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. There is a slight dialect variance too between them. Another interesting thing about this community is they used to write Marathi in the Modi script not Devanagari, almost every member can trace their ancestry back 350 yeara or roughly 9-11 generations when they first moved to TN with the Maratha army. The South Indian staple 'Sambhar' comes from this community too, after 'Sambhaji' one of the first rulers.
