TaNk
Karachi, Feb 8 (IANS) Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt Sunday offered Mohammad Yousuf a place in the national team again provided he cancelled his contract with the breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL). Yousuf is one of Pakistan's greatest batsmen, Butt told reporters, but added that he will have to quit the rebel ICL to make his Pakistan comeback. He also said he hoped a crisis initiated following Javed Miandad's decision to quit as PCB director deneral would be resolved soon. Butt said in an interview Sunday that both the PCB management and Miandad had equal share in the controversy that is to be probed by Pakistan's Senate at a meeting in Islamabad Monday. 'The board had its share in the reasons that led Miandad to resign but I must say that he (Miandad) too had a role in it,' said Butt, a former Pakistan Test opener. Miandad, a former Pakistan captain, decided to step down as PCB director general last month, saying that the board management was not willing to give him enough authority. Speaking on the International Cricket Council (ICC) decision to once again reverse the result of the Oval Test, Butt said that the PCB should not be blamed for the verdict. He said that the ICC took the decision on the basis of cricket laws. At its executive board meeting in Perth last week, the ICC bosses voted in favour of reversing the Oval Test result in the favor of England as forfeiture. Pakistan's fourth Test against England at the Oval in August 2006 ended controversially when the tourists refused to take the field after tea on the fourth day to protest against the umpires' decision to penalise them over alleged ball-tampering. The umpires awarded the Test to England, making Pakistan the first team to forfeit a Test in cricket history. An ICC probe later cleared Pakistan of ball-tampering charges. The result was reversed last summer on the PCB's request but the ICC move drew flak from the MCC - the custodian of the game's laws. Link to comment

Ram
Only a board as unprofessional and as unscrupulous as the PCB will actually openly call for a player to defect from a professional league for which he's signed to play for. It will be the mother of all volte-faces if Yousuf decided to dump ICL (again), to go back to Pakistan cricket. But being the shameless mercenary that he is, there's no saying that he wont do it. This back and forth nonsense is not just limited to Pakistani players. The board officials are also in on the act and it may not be long now before we see Miandad back in the PCB PCB planning to bring Miandad back Islamabad: Javed Miandad may come back into the Pakistan Cricket Board fold, as the officials who were involved in conspiring against him have softened their stand. The News quoted PCB sources as saying that some of the officials who had plotted a move against the former captain were now losing ground and PCB chairman Ejaz Butt, who had always supported Miandad, now wants to take him back in the fold. "Miandad is expected to get a call from the PCB headquarters within the next couple of days and a possible meeting is on the cards between the chairman and the batsman," the PCB source said. Butt may request the former star batsman to withdraw his resignation in the meeting, the source added. "Though the meeting's time has yet to be finalised, it is expected the two would meet before the senate meeting scheduled on Monday. Whether Miandad would turn up for the meeting or not is another matter," he said. Minadad's resignation came after some PCB officials reportedly ill-treated him in the absence of chairman Ejaz Butt. "If at all Minadad accepts the request to rejoin the PCB he would now do it under his set conditions," a source close to Miandad said. According to the source, if no settlement were reached within a few days, the Senate committee on sports would come in to play a decisive role in his re induction. "The Senate committee that is to meet on Monday is expected to play a decisive role as far as Miandad's association with the Board is concerned. It looks almost difficult that Miandad would go on to accept anything from the Board at this point. He possibly would decide on his future after the Senate meeting," he said. http://cricketnext.in.com/news/pcb-planning-to-bring-miandad-back/38090-13.html Link to comment
