I saw a live demonstration at the Houston Galleria... While this looks really fancy, there are limited applications at moment since the RF Id tags required for recognition of devices such as credit cards etc are not widely available. Promising indeed, but the device is cumbersome, and not exactly something for every day use. For instance, i have a Zune (yeah i am a bit masochistic), and i tried to connect my zune to the device. Well the first thing i need to do is turn on wireless on my zune, which saps the battery life if kept on at all times, then i must have previously connected to the computer to configure my wireless to connect to the local 802.11g network both devices are connected via. Thus i must connect the device using a connecting cable at least once. Something i usually do when i have to charge the battery on the device. furthermore, the connection between devices is limited by applications that run on both operating systems. for instance, if you were to sync a palm device with the computer, you wont be able to use the touch interface as the palm os does not have a similar interface. having said all that, i do feel that this might very well be the next technological gizmo that permeates our society.

It is good. I am excited about it. Yes, there are shortcomings, but technology can improve so very fast. Dont forget that only three decades ago experts had predicted that a computer could never be a household product.

How can I buy Microsoft Surface? Currently Microsoft Surface is not available for individual consumer purchase. Microsoft Surface is being marketed and sold to large-scale leisure, entertainment and retail companies in the U.S. and people will be able to experience Microsoft Surface in public locations. If you are a large-scale leisure, entertainment or retail company looking to purchase Microsoft Surface please contact your existing Microsoft representative or email the Microsoft Surface business desk at sbizdesk@microsoft.com. Consumers will be able to purchase Microsoft Surface in about two to four years. (2007+2|4)
