If IPL takes place outside India, it will hardly give 24 hours to the India team players after arriving from New Zealand. More... IPL will be tough on India players If IPL takes place outside India, it will hardly give 24 hours to the India team players after arriving from New Zealand. The third and final Test match is scheduled to be over in Wellington on April 7 and then the team will fly out of Auckland the next day and return home in the wee hours of April 9, en route Hong Kong. So, the players will hardly get time to even catch a nap before catching a flight to either South African or England for a 45-day event. Meanwhile, the Indian team have left for Auckland on Monday on road for a much needed break from cricket. Fortunately, the team will have a day off tommorow as well. Buty the Kiwis, after been outplayed in the first Test got down to business, with the coach taking the boys to Seddon park for an extended training session where the team discussed about the ways to come back strongly in the Test series with a win in Napier. The Kiwis are due to fly to Napier on Tuesday for the second Test. The Indian players were given a break by their coach after the thumping win on Saturday. The coach along with Paddy Upton with their families stayed back in Hamilton. Most of the Indian players were busy shopping in Auckland. Sehwag, who was joined by his wife and son before the first Test, is enjoying the form of his life in this series. While, stand in wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik too is accompanied by his wife. The Indians will travel to Napier on March 24 .

I don't think the players have complained about this anywhere! I think the article is just to make the fans aware of the facts about their favourite cricketers from team India!

Just see how tough it'll be for them:
What tough? They can opt out of the IPL and take a well deserved break before other important tournaments. BCCI cannot mandate them to take part in IPL. They take part in IPL becoz they salivate after the dollahs and moolahs. Nothing wrong, but then neither should they complain (which they haven't so far), nor should we say "pooh babies, cho chweet, its tough on them". Players can opt out if they think its too tough.

Neither should we whine when they opt out of series like Dhoni did against SL.

If he had opted out of IPL, and played for Ind vs SL, then no one would have complained. If you can do both, then great. If you cannot do both and you prioritize playing for the country, no problem. If you switch priorities, there will be some complaints (which he can choose to ignore or rectify for the future).

you're priority != his priority. He can chose what he likes. Nobody cares what you think. For the record, I would've chosen the IPL too.

I'm not the only one who complained that he chose IPL over Tests. Regarding "He can choose what he likes" - there is a possibility, that if enough people complain and apply pressure, in future he will give more importance to Tests over IPL if such situation repeats. Public can apply pressure even though they cannot directly force players to choose Team India matches over IPL.

Why? IPL was BCCIs idea. MS Dhoni was the captain of our T20 team, which won the WC, and is the direct cause for the creation of IPL. Furthermore he was highest paid in the IPL. Led his team to finals of the tournament. But he should've stayed out of that? Understand some bureaucracy and how much pressure is on our players before you speak. He asked for several breaks, and wasn't given any. He couldn't have opted out of the IPL. He was the captain of our ODI team, and in case you haven't noticed, our backup wicketkeepers can't catch - so he couldn't stayed out of the one-day tournaments that were held right after the IPL. He had to take a break. He's the captain & the wicketkeeper of our team - he's under tremendous pressure all the time. If he felt he wasn't fit enough to keep in 3 tests in SL (which is fair because they have slow pitches, and it need incredible fitness and attentiveness to keep to someone of Kumble's calibre), then he shouldn't participate, which is what he did. Just so that you don't bring up this topic again and again and again and again: http://content.cricinfo.com/magazine/content/story/342305.html

Why would you do that to our most consistent performer in the team? So that he can stop performing ? You're speaking without common sense now.

^ So, what will he do now? Has the WK situation changed now? (Parthiv, KKD still suck) He is captain of CSK, captain of ODIs and captain of Tests. At some point, he has to take rest - fair enough. At what point? Which captaincy will he prioritize now that he is captain in all formats? He should try and prioritize the Team India matches, and for that we cannot force, but public can express their opinions and maybe that pressure will sway him to choose these matches over IPL.

Fortunately, the Indian public is not dumb enough to complain about a player who skips a Test series which hardly anyone watches, to take part in a landmark league which broke all TV viewership records, and where he was the highest paid and most sought after cricketer.
