DesiChap
Dhoni fails as Jharkhand go down to Orissa A STAFF REPORTER Calcutta: Those who turned up at the Eden quite early in the morning to watch fireworks from India wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, were a disappointed lot after the Jharkhand star managed only one run in his five-minute stay in the middle in the opening National (East Zone) Twenty20 match. Jharkhand, by the way, lost to Orissa by 11 runs on Tuesday. Putting Orissa to bat first on a wicket that offered even bounce, Jharkhand bowlers did a great job to bundle out the latter for 121 in 19.3 overs. It was only P. Jayachandra who made a significant contribution with 46 off 37 balls. The next best for Orissa was by opener Bikash Pati (14). For Jharkhand, medium-pacer Praveen Kumar was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 36. BRIEF SCORES Orissa 121 in 19.3 ovs (Jayachandra 46; Kumar 3/36, Keshav 2/16). Jharkhand 110/9 in 20 ovs (Dhoni 1, Ghosh 24; Pritamjit 2/21, Patel 2/23). Orissa won by 11 runs. Link to comment
King
Re: Dhoni improves WC form in 20-20 Those who turned up at the Eden quite early in the morning to watch fireworks Wow... people still go and watch cricket just because Dhoni was playing. Cricket never will come second in Inida. Good for the sport. Link to comment

Chandan
Re: Dhoni improves WC form in 20-20 Okay, so here is the coverage of Day One of 20:20 competition: Twenty20 too hot for stars Nihal Koshie Tuesday, April 03, 2007 23:11 IST MUMBAI: The low-key introduction of the Twenty20 game in the domestic circuit by the board was complimented by lacklustre performances by some of the game?s biggest stars. Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni and Irfan Pathan, all part of the debacle-ridden World Cup squad, failed to live up to their star value on the opening day of the inaugural Twenty20 event. Down South, Kerala S Sreesanth gave away 29 runs in his three overs as Kerala fell 49 runs short of Karnataka?s target. At Wankhede, Pathan was wayward with the new ball and was smashed around by openers Robin Morris and Ajinkya Rahane as Mumbai beat Baroda by eight wickets. Pathan sprayed the new ball around and conceded four wides as he went for 35 runs in three overs. With each bowler allowed only four overs in the game?s shortest version, Pathan could not undo the early damage. Pathan?s first over went for 13 runs and his second cost him 12. Pathan, who didn?t take part for India in the World Cup, smashed the second ball he faced for a six, but was trapped in front of his stumps by Rohit Sharma after making 9. At the Ferozshah Kotla ground in Delhi, Sehwag too didn?t fire. He went to the World Cup with a question mark over his place in the side but scored a ton against Bermuda. On Tuesday, all he could manage was four runs against Himachal Pradesh. His off-spin fetched him one wicket but his four overs cost him 31 runs. The other hard-hitting Indian batsman on display, wicketkeeper Dhoni, who scored 0, 29 and 0 in the World Cup, came a cropper when he scored just 1 in Jharkhand?s 11-run loss to Orissa. However, Karnataka?s Robin Uthappa, who failed to justify the confidence the team management placed in him at the World Cup, smashed 36 runs off just 28 balls, a knock that contained four boundaries and one sixer. Dinesh Karthik, part of the World Cup squad, also managed to get some runs under his belt. His 34 included three boundaries and one sixer. With the inaugural Twenty20 World Cup to be hosted by South Africa in September, the Board of Control for Cricket in India which initially was lukewarm about the introduction of the Twenty20 game, had to relent, courtesy pressure from the International Cricket Council. BCCI was out-voted 10-1 with regard to the introduction of the Twenty20 World Cup at an ICC meeting last year and were forced into adopting the format. Mumbai win by eight wickets Meanwhile, an all-round performance by promising Rohit Sharma (40 n.o. and 3-15) helped Mumbai beat Baroda by eight wickets in their West Zone Twenty20 opener. Baroda were never in the game as they lost wickets at regular intervals after Mumbai chose to field. Baroda opener Rishikesh Parab top-scored with 38. In chase of 108 for a win, Mumbai won by the 17th over. Link to comment
DesiChap
Re: Dhoni improves WC form in 20-20 Dhoni hits 37 .. in Jharkhand win A STAFF REPORTER Calcutta: Mahendra Singh Dhoni perhaps needed some time to get used to the conditions under the scorching heat. On Thursday the Team India wicketkeeper helped Jharkhand to an eight-wicket win over Assam in the National (East Zone) Twenty20 tournament at the Eden. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 37 from 21 balls. Incidentally, the first two matches he played yielded only 13 runs (one versus Orissa and 12 versus Bengal). Batting first on hard wicket, Assam didn?t do that bad posting 141 for nine. But it was Dhoni who made all the difference scoring at a brisk pace to help his team achieve the target in 17.1 overs losing just two wickets. The Dhoni blitzkrieg was studded with four boundaries and one hit over the rope. Manish Vardhan led from the front with an effective 64, while Subroto Ghosh contributed with a run-a-ball 28.In another match, Orissa won against Tripura. SUMMARISED SCORES Assam 141/9 (N. Bordoloi 36, P. Aziz 65 ..; Nadeem 3/20). Jharkhand 143/2 (M. Vardhan 64 .., MS Dhoni 37 ..) Jharkhand won by 8 wkts. Orissa 140/6 (P Jayachandra 41, RR Das 41). Tripura 98 (S Choudhury 27; P Patel 4/11, N Behera 3/11). Orissa won by 42 runs. Link to comment
