Rajan
Among all the captains i have observed in the last couple of years, Shane Warne stands Head and shoulders above others.Kumble is close behind. the likes of Ponting, Tendulkar, Sehwag,Collingwood,McCullum are very good players but make poor captains. They are good cricketers and take the team to the finishing line on their good days with their performances, but leading in tough situations, strategising, inspiring, motivating, pulling the team towards a miracle, taking calculated risk, are not their strengths really. to some extent, Yuvraj succeeded.Petersen was a better captain than the results suggest. whom do you consider the top 3 captains in 20-20 format in the last 2 years? why? graphic23
Pietersen was ****. Yuvraj was crap - by his own admission, he couldn't keep calm on the field, how is that "success" ? Sehwag was disappointing. Sachin's capability (or rather the lack of it) to captain is well known, though as a batsman, he wasn't too bad. McCullum had a freak IPL - nothing went right, so its harsh to judge based on that. Collingwood was/is/will be crap. Warne is on a different plane altogether. Dhoni comes close. Kumble was exceptional because he was able to inspire both by talking and by his actions in the field. He was certainly nothing short of phenomenal. Link to comment
