Good to see this has not been forgotten. Although the sheer laxity is enough to enrage any half-decent Indian citizen. Mumbai Police's laxity let Kasab slip out of Cama

Date had arrived at Cama soon after the terrorists, and was taking them on with other officers. Starting at 2319 hrs IST, at regular intervals, Date kept telling his wireless operator to ask the Control Room for reinforcements. Sadanand Date's conversation with the Control Room: At 2319 hrs IST: Firing going on in Cama Hospital. Send commandos immediately. At 2320 hrs IST: Firing going on, on the sixth floor. Help quickly. At 2323 hrs IST: Two-three blasts have taken place. Help immediately. At 2325 hrs IST: Firing is going on, on sixth floor of Cama. Need reinforcements. At 2326 hrs IST: Shortage of striking at Cama. At 2327 hrs IST: Send striking to Cama, running short of men. At 2328 hrs IST: Heavy firing. We are all injured. Need help. Please need reinforcements.
10 minutes of heavy firing in a South Mumbai area and still the Authorities could not corner 2 gunmen? Says something doesnt it. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/mumbai-polices-laxity-let-kasab-slip-out-of-cama/95040-3.html

Absolutely....shocking if we see from here. But aren't we used to slow response to every sort of crime or almost always?? Lurk... we are never known to respond to these kind of attacks. We need special force in every major city and need regular drills to keep them ready for any untoward incident. Nor sure, what UPA is planning to do about it. But they need to.

I would hope thats not neccessarily true Dial. I mean I can understand that speed, or lack thereof, in say Patna but come on this is Mumbai we are talking about here. A city not only Indian financial center but also a city with history of blasts/riots etc etc. When the Head of Anti Terrorism Squad makes a call I have reasons to expect a sub minute response if not subsecond. I mean a couple of minutes are enough to do the damage, here we are talking of 2 terrorists(just 2 mind you), getting inside a hospital shooting/blasting for 10-15 minutes and then walking away. What compounds the laxity is how the SOS from ATS chief, Police Senior Officers kept sending messages every minute and received no support. xxx

There were also reports that a map of the Taj was not made available to the forces; the terrorists OTOH knew exactly where they were, where to go and what they were doing. Pitiful.

With UPA back in power, things will be put under the table shortly. Can't believe Afzal and Kasab are still alive while their victims ashes are long gone!

I will give you a simple real life experience. I was sipping Chai in a small place. Next to me were bunch of cops having snacks and chai. They got a Wireless message asking them to rush to a scene of crime. Guess how/what SI asked constable to respond to the dispatcher. He told him to ask whether the guy is alive or dead. If he is dead, then he need not rush cuz life is already lost and he didn;t want interruption in his snack time. fairly common. We will eventually learn to be quick. But response time of anything less than 10 mins is highly unlikely unless we see dozens of such attacks every month. Which is very unlikely. We only like those Heros in the movies and dreams. For you to become hero in real life, you need to be born different. You cant change them overnight. PERIOD.
