Do you own a pair of sports shoes? Most likely they are made in sweat shops by children in Vietnam. How about your clothes? Do you wear only designer clothes? Then you probably own something made in sweatshops in China. Do you have a computer with MS windows? The plastic is manufactured in China sweatshops while the software is going to cost you 50$ more than it needs to be only because they hold a monopoly on PC OS. How about an ipod? You pay triple of what it actually costs because apple can do so. Sony electronics perhaps? But be careful, they might have a virus on their CD's. Every company is evil. Deal with it.

they are bad for the small businesses which were thriving before a walmart opens up near by and kills them all. they are however great for the thousands of suppliers who are small businesses too. overall i am not sure if the net effect of such massive corporations is good or bad for the economy. my personal experience with walmart has been one of low prices, poor service and a mix bag of quality.

Depends on your income group I suppose. For people who can afford better Walmart is a no-no. But for those who can not Walmart can be a life saver. Anytime you visit a Walmart you can see that the bulk of consumers are comprised of Hispanics, African Americans and Redneck whites. I buy mostly domestic household stuff from Walmart (read toiler cleaners, detergents etc). Everything else comes from what I would consider better stores. But surely Walmart is not only an American phenomenon. Walmart, and its brothers, are doing lot more damage in India where the traditional bazaar culture has been fast replaced by Malls/Supercenters. These days going to a mall is like going for a walk. Growing up most Indians I know would walk to the bazaar, or pedal on a cycle, and come back with fresh vegetables/fruits. Looking back that was one daily routine that greatly help build my shoulders (being narcisstic for a second). Compare this to hopping in your car, putting everything in shopping cart and then coming back home in A/C vehicle. Times have changed...for the better?? Who the eff knows. xxx

I respect Walmart because they hire anyone , provides employment to many who could never have gotten a job otherwise (Special children etc).

Rednecks? No. Target is a bit upscale for them, and I dont mean to be disrespectful. The more affluent Americans do prefer Target although these days everyone is trying to save some money.

We have a Super WM within 6 miles, and it is great - new, clean, helpful, cheap. The overall selection is much better than Target. I can get anything from mulch and pinestraw to a MagicJack. Other than the hit-or-miss nature of their fresh vegetable quality, they are great. For what it's worth, I've been burned more by Target's poor quality of produce. BTW, redneck does not equal poor. I know a lot of rich fellas who would qualify. What you're talking about are those that are derisively called "white trash." Not the same.

+1. I used to shop for veggies from Meijer, we had one right opposite our Walmart.
