I hate religions with passion, at the same time I hate discrimination too, so I dont even know what I would do. And your liberal enlightenment is reserved only for the West ? Heck , you don't even live in france and you want to comment about their laws. You want to talk about discrimination , look no further than middle east and other Islamic republic . Heck , even liberal Dubai has laws against blasphemy . Moderate malayasia just banned yoga for muslims. The less said about Islamic republic of Iran or Saudi the better it is . Pakis in our Parosi site are going postal over this benign law , but conveniently choose to keep mum when it comes to apostasy/blasphemy laws in their own country. The hypocrisy of some of these Muslims is mind boggling. I can go on and on and expose draconian nature of Sharia laws. Like I said before , this pattern of showing tolerance towards a bunch of intolerant people is not only foolhardy , but quite dangerous in my opinion. Support them at your own peril .....

I know of women who live in the West (US) who wear a burqa (not just a hijab, but a full burqa) as a badge of Islamic pride. I can't fathom why one would do that, but to each his/her own. At least she is not bringing harm to other people in any way.

That kook Ibrahim Hooper went on air recommending a separate women's area for taking photos in DMVs.

Well, Sikh/Arab men wear turbans for religious reasons, Not a perfect comparison, but, I can't imagine the discomfort of wearing one (the few hours of wearing one for my wedding was more than I could handle).

Actually this can happen to non-islamic women as well. There were several high profile cases in Australia in the last 5 to 6 years involving none other than our padosi step brothers and also a lebanese guy I think. The defense was "in my culture a women not covering herself is fair game". Go figure.

I am not talking about governments or groups, it is about individuals, I can foresee a decent religious, law abiding muslim family in france being discriminated for no fault of theirs.If display of overt religious symbols are banned, then ban them all, make religion truly private (I would love that more than anything).

Been there and seen it.

Your comparison is a stretch. Key point - the hijab breaks the secular law of France which does not permit wearing outward religious symbol. You will never see a french guy wear a huge cross showing that they are christian. Honestly, I have never once seen that.

Didn't you know that in islamic countries women have no sexual feelings? Its a man's prerogative to have sexual feelings never a women's.

Well, Sikh/Arab men wear turbans for religious reasons, Not a perfect comparison, but, I can't imagine the discomfort of wearing one (the few hours of wearing one for my wedding was more than I could handle). Exactly - they don't do it out of free will either but because they are religious and have been indoctrinated to wear a turban. And yeah, a turban is uncomfortable though a head scarf in the sweltering summer heat specially if you soak it in water is a life saver.

Been there and seen it.[/quote'] i know plenty of hindu kids in the states eat beef, etc. doesn't prove anything about indian hindus back home. minorities often take more pride in being minorities than "majorities do". in fact, you'll find a higher proportion of practicing muslims in places like the USA/UK than in bangladesh or pakistan. merely having an [empty] mosque on every corner and ten suicide bombers per week doesn't an observant muslim make.
