Let me rephrase - do not 'encourage' abortion. There are numerous instances where abortion is the correct course of action. But on a whole abortion should be uniquely positioned in society where a woman need exhaustively approach various alternatives before going through with it. As a society , there needs to be a level of compunction introduced when making this decision, in other words it shouldnt be viewed as a routine affair without a moral compass. This should encourage responsible behaviour,preventing unwanted pregnancies, is the best solution. In Tamil we call this 'Vaai illatha janmam', a voiceless life ,and as a responsible adult it is imperative that a responsible society protect it. It is callous to create a one-dimensional argument out of this ,calling it a woman's choice. It may be but that foetus hasnt a voice , yet,thus it is society's duty to balance the argument. I would finally just say this , that the difference in opinion I believe stems from our basic understanding or lack thereof of 'needless' vs 'unwanted', this causes the divergent paths of this argument.

I have no issues at all with your view that we should have some moral compunction before creating a life and more so about the decision to end such a life. It surely cannot and must not become a routine affair to end a needless or unwanted pregnancy however consider also the factor of the wrong people becoming parents. There are some who just should never be parents either because they don't have the economic wherewithal or the skills.
