Amid government moves for a re-look at criminalising homosexuality, several Muslim leaders have said any attempt to legally permit unnatural sex is an attack on religious and moral values. "Legalisation of homosexuality is an attack on Indian religious and moral values," over a dozen prominent Muslim religious leaders said in a statement. The statement has been endorsed president of the Jamaat-e Islami Hind Maulana Jalaluddin Omari, rector of Darul Uloom Waqf, Deoband, Maulana Muhammad Salim Qasimi, Maulana Mufti Mukarram Ahmad, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Fatehpuri, among others. "We are shocked to see reports in the media that the Union government is considering the repeal of Section 377 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code), which means making homosexuality legal," the statement said on Tuesday. It said that homosexuality is a sin and a social evil which will only lead to societal disintegration and break-up of the family. Appealing to the government not to be influenced by the "decadent trends of the Western culture" and not to give in to the demands of a minuscule minority, the statement said the government should not test the patience of the silent vast majority of the country which abhors such behaviour. A prominent body of Muslim community Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind had earlier hit out at the government's proposed move, saying the repeal of the section would create "sexual anarchy" in the society. "The section should stay as its repealing would result in sexual anarchy in the society. Those opposing the section are influenced by Western culture. Those who argue for independence do not realise that independence should have its limits," Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind spokesperson Abdul Hameed Noamani said. Leading Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband too opposed the Centre's move to repeal a controversial section, saying unnatural sex is against the tenets of Islam. "Homosexuality is offence under Shariat Law and haram (prohibited) in Islam," Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Darul Uloom Deoband Maulana Abdul Khalik Madrasi said. The reaction came after reports that Centre was likely to convene a meeting soon to evolve a consensus on repealing a controversial section of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises homosexuality. (but denouncing Honor Killing is haram apparently)

Lol!! What a freaking joke you are, tex1des! Religious leaders from every religion have opposed moves to legalize homosexuality, but of course you would put in the Muslim opposition. Christian :

"It (homosexuality) is not at all acceptable and agreeable. It is against the tenets of the Bible. Man and woman were created in God's own image. Homosexuality is against the society," Rt Rev Abraham Mar Paulos Episcopa, Head of Marthoma Syrian Church of Malabar diocesan here, said.
Hindu :
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad is also opposed to any dilution in the Section 377 of IPC. "It is against the culture and family system in India. It will result in spread of a number of diseases. But we will see what changes, if at all, are introduced in the section," said Vinod Bansal, spokesperson of Delhi unit of the Parishad.
Sikhs :
"Homosexuality is unnatural," said Sukhdev Singh Bhaur, general secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which administers historical Sikh shrines, mainly in Punjab state. "We oppose any proposal to give legitimacy to such acts," Bhaur added.
Propaganda machine!

Scrapping IPC 377 is a step in the right direction. But I dont think India is ready to accept gay marriage yet though.

What next? A three way marriage or one between a human and an animal? Have your own freakish sexual orientation/preference in your personal lives, but leave marriage to a man and a woman.

Spoken like a true homophobe .Has it occurred to you that sexual orientation may be hard wired to the DNA for some ?

Homosexuality shouldnt be labelled as a crime!! Whether it qualifies as a "marriage" is debatable. Freakish it maybe, but sexual preferences are extremely personal choices and are best left to the individual to decide.

Your attitude is appalling. Why ostracise someone for an aspect of their life they can't control? As for the Muslim bollocks - memo to Mullahs: India is not an Islamic country. To paraphrase the Canadian PM when homosexuality was legalise there; 'what people do in the privacy of their own bedroom is no business of the state.'

No hate here. I said do whatever you want in your personal life. Just don't expect your personal sexual behavior to be accepted as a marriage.

Yes, personal choice, so do what you may. I am talking about marriage here.

Ostracise? as in thrown out, keep away from society? No, that is not what I am talking about. I say be as homo as you want, just keep it personal. What goes on in your personal lives is no one's business, but let's keep some basic traditions alive, shall we?

Those of you supporting same sex marriage, do you also accept in-vitro/surrogate method of having a child with a third person? If so, don't you think the child in such a case is being given a raw deal in terms of being biologically tied to just one parent?

Good one. Make it 5 way. :--D It is illegal in the countries I respect and care about, except India, which ofc has some of the most non-uniform laws in the world. And even for those countries where it is legal, THEY consider it fine I guess, so I could care less. So, if the gays tomorrow have a SameSexistan, they could make the only form of marriage as the one between same sex couples and even though I wouldn't approve of it for the sake of their kids, it will be their problem and not ours.

Are you sure thats okay? Fritzl commited most of his crimes in the privacy of his basement, his daughter having given up fighting ended up being consensual for 20 years or so. Or how about the South Australian man who married his daughter , should we not care?
A SOUTH Australian father and daughter have revealed they are a couple, and have had a child together. John and Jenny Deaves reunited 30 years after Mr Deaves separated from Jenny's mother. Jenny was 31 and just two weeks after meeting, father and daughter had sex. "John and I are in this relationship as consenting adults," Mrs Deaves told the Nine Network's 60 Minutes tonight.
Is there a stake that needs to be set in the ground of societal norms?

Section 377 is the most retarded section of the Indian Penal Code. Its was introduced during the British rule and Indians never felt the need to scrap it. According to this law even if you are fingering someone of your own sex, despite the fact both are consenting adults, you are a CRIMINAL. But how exactly does one catch anyone in this act? Needless to say no one has ever been charged under section 377 till date (at least in the recent times). To people saying its your personal choice, No according to Indian law homosexuality of any kind, including oral, is illegal. Its not your personal choice.
