Huh? What happened? Right after the Nov election last year, she was like 'I am going to go back and serve the people of Alaska..'.. She'll probably run for the senate. She'll make a formidable opponent to Obama in the next presidential election.

Lets not get carried away here. She was never a political candidate of worth. I do blame the media for interfering too much into her personal life, and even worse - her children's lives. Anything and everything made the headlines, and that was wrong. This resignation probably comes under that media exposure. I don't blame her.

Isn't that what most politicians want?

Not if the headlines are about your daughter's pregnancy and how is breaking up with her boyfriend, and so is a seventeen year old with a child. Such things should be left to their own families. There was another case in 2004 when a republican senator and his divorced wife literally begged the media not to disclose anything about them because they did not want their son to know these things, but ABC had a broadcast about all sorts of completely personal things that their family underwent. It was embarrassing to watch - and even more so because the guy backed out of the election, and said that he did not want to contest and asked the media to please not disclose any information.

That sucks really. Media can be so pathetic......anywhere in the world.

Man.. she's so incomprehensible. What the hell was she trying to say in her speech ?? This is what I got: - I won't run for office in the next term - I don't want to be a lame-duck governor - So I quit .. huh ?

I agree with your post in general but I think people deserved to see what her family was like after she spoke about abortion and family values

If Mr. O can fix the economy within the next one year, which is a steep task indeed, he will brush aside this lipstick bimbo with one wave of his left hand. Palin will receive the republican nomination with ease, and might enjoy unanimous support with the ultra right: the anti abortion, pro gun, evangelical lobby. But that lobby has dwindled considerably since the debacle that was GWB. That lobby will garner he at the very best about 25-35% of the vote. She is very unlikely to win over any fence sitting democrats or centerist, or center-left independents. How she will fare with the center right independents is anyone's guess. The last election suggested she wont have their support, even though the GOP ticket had the most prominent center-right senator: McCain.

I think personal lives are fair game. Nothing is off limits. These politicians parade their hallmark greeting cardesque families on television when promoting their stance on 'family values', and 'core american beliefs', or even when swiftboating their opposition for choices in personal life, then why must these picture perfect families not be subjected to a scrutiny beyond photo shoots? If a politician talks about tougher punishments for drug peddlers or cutting back funding for drug awareness programs that are not limited to mere abstinence, or when they protest needle exchange programs... if details surface that this very individual himself or one of his family members suffered a drug addiction, then their hypocrisy should be broadcasted, ridiculed and made grounds for a massive humiliation campaign! Similarly, when politicians choose to ridicule another for his adulterous affairs, if the fact surfaces that they themselves were dogging (in every sense of the word) their early twenties secretary, then that politicians' personal life is fair game. Let me put it this way: when one applies to a hospital seeking employment as a doctor, a complete background check, a drug test, and a psychiatric evaluation is in order. Why must the politicians not be vetted accordingly?

i.e. the only motivation for being an enthusiastic governor is the possibility of re-election. I say that if a politician leaves his or her job midway to seek personal ambition, there ought to be a two year cooling period for them before they are permitted to reenter the fold.
