Pretty much similar to what Apple did with is user interface on Mach/BSD kernel. Google is banking on its loyal user base to switch. Now if they can provide really slick interface (like Apple), other people will also switch. I for one will stick with Ubuntu (or whatever distro of the year is :eyedance:)

I predict that, in 15 years time, the company will become so big that regulators will step in and split the company into smaller bits.

Debian would also be amazing if they did not consider anything newer than 2 years as 'unstable'. :P That said Debian Unstable still has old software. Its an awesome distribution though. :--D Almost comes close to Slackware :P

It appears that Google seems to be releasing inconsequential products under the surface just to keep them in the news. I use almost all of Googles suite and find it very useful but not all of their products are successful. On the same token products like Google Squared are pretty ingenious.

I use almost all of Googles suite and find it very useful but not all of their products are successful. There are 2 reasons for this: a) Google wants to compete with Microsoft. Microsoft is trying hard to grab Google's market share on web(specially search engines, maps and other utilities). Google wants to force Microsoft into defensive by making inroads into MS's bread and butter(OS). b) Google wants to compete with the "Apps" on mobile phone. Anytime you use an App, and most iPhone/smart phones users do that, they are essentially not using Web(and in turn Google the search engine). Google wants to make sure it grabs a market share on mobile phone by providing its OS. xxx
