Holysmoke
Shahid Afridi's [ Images ] dream of leading the Pakistan team came true as the flamboyant all-rounder was on Wednesday appointed captain for the one-off Twenty20 [ Images ] match against Sri Lanka [ Images ] next month. Pakistan Cricket Board today made an announcement to this effect but there was no mention whether Afridi would continue at the helm of the country's T20 team. Afridi's appointment came as Younis Khan [ Images ] stepped down after leading Pakistan to the Twenty20 World Cup glory in England [ Images ] last month. Younis made it clear that he considered himself too old for the shortest format of the game and would not take back his decision. Afridi, who joined the touring squad for the ODI series and the T20 tie last week, had earlier made it clear that it was his lifelong ambition to lead Pakistan in atleast one international match. The five-match ODI series is starting in Dambulla tomorrow, while Pakistan will play the only T20 match on August 12 in Colombo. The all-rounder has captained his city, provincial and departmental teams in domestic cricket with mixed success. "The decision reflects that the board and selectors are concerned about future of regular vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq in the Pakistan team particularly for limited-over cricket," one source said. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Link to comment

cowboysfan
I think Afridi missed the test series because he knew the only way PCB were going to make him a captain was with a brain transplant and he went ahead and had one. Link to comment
CricketGirl
^^ true i think he needs more than a brain transplant tho! Link to comment

DomainK
Bravo. Now make him the captain for tests as well.....Pakistan can not play any worse under him anyways and they will have the excuse that their captain has a two-cell brain. Link to comment

Pak_Forever
lol...wonder whats the reason behind all your cunning laughs. Afridi is easily the best T20 player in the whole cricketing world. He was the man of the tournament in WC 2007 and was easily the best choice after Dilshan in recent T20 WC. He is perfectly well suited for this format of the game and his positive and aggressive energy will bring the best out of Pakistan. A great move by Pakistan cricket and hopefully in his tenure we will bag more T20 cups. Good Luck Boom Boom Beast Afridiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! :two_thumbs_up: Link to comment
Desi Cartman
IMO its a good choice. He is still young :hehe: and I think he has the "respect" of the players. His bowling performances have been good in the recent past and he is any day better than Misbah and other options that they have. Me thinks he should also be the Kaptaan of the ODI team as YK is almost not interested in leading pak ... Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
lol...wonder whats the reason behind all your cunning laughs. Afridi is easily the best T20 player in the whole cricketing world. This is like anointing a gambler at Vegas who has a good night at the craps table as being the best dice roller in the world. The game's a freaking lottery. Try and understand cricket a bit beyond the circus. Link to comment
