How did the atmosphere and the sense of a major cricket contest compare to some of the other games you've been to? (I remember you said you attended the final day of the great chase at Chennai)

(I remember you said you attended the final day of the great chase at Chennai) To be honest.. I dint imagine that it would be such a full house. well.. I thought the same about IPL also that who on earth is going to spend so much to watch domestic tournaments - no one cares to attend ranji matches, we indian like to see only the national team playing - but I was proved wrong, not once but twice... I was stupid enough to go ther without a ticket, with the hope of buying one. Being a thursday afternoon, I thought it should be easy. But it was a sell out and tickets for monday's double header were selling like hot cakes.. but i'm not one who'll give up so easily... especially when I hav bunked half a day and drove 15 kms in Blore traffic to reach the stadium.. :) There usually are people who come in groups, and suddenly one or two among their gang will not show up and they sell the extra ticket... so i was hoping to get one such... I went there at 3 and up until 5, I couldn't get hold of a ticket.. i just missed one such guy by a whisker and smeone else bought it. There was huge enthusiasm among the crowd, about the fact that they are going to see something new.. but nothing like what you see during an India game.. thats a totally different setting.. the india t shirts and tri colors were missing. you could see a good no. of ppl in RCB jersey.. I dint wear one as I came from office directly, also I dont have an RCB jersey. Being a CSK fan I have their jersey and ofcourse the Team India jerseys (both light blue and the recent metallic blue). around 6, I was getting frustrated and was thinking of going home and catching it on tv.. i thought i'll give 15 more minutes. luckily i came across a few kids who had some extra tickets and wow.. I was inside... the crowd was at its boooing best. they applauded only for the Indian teams. And kept booooing when the other team's names were announced, whch was fun.. the opening drum performance, the dance by school kids were good. The martial arts was also good. When the singers came on (Shaggy, Jamelia etc) it wasnt that good. It might have been good on tv, but the sound was not good in the stadium. once kumble won the toss, the crowd went berserk. later uthappa treated them with some nice hits before ross taylor joined the party and took them to 180. I thought they should definitely win.. but JPD had other ideas.. everyone went silent by the end of 18th over.. PK brouht some cheer when dismssed ontong in the 19th, but once he went for 2 fours in that over, some ppl started leaving.. as far as i'm concerned, i'm still not getting the excitement, anxieties, the nervousness and whatever whatever feeling when you see india matches. for me, its always been India matches that top the list.. however, i dint want to miss the opportunity of being there when something big, thats happening right where I live.. it was the same feeling in 2008 when IPL started. after 10-15 years, I can proudly think I was there when all these things came into being.. what say mate?

Mr. Wicket Posted October 8, 2009 Posted October 8, 2009 How were fans treated? Were there decent amenities at the ground for the viewers? Decent food/drink vendors, clean areas to eat, decent bathrooms? Reasonable but not excessive and overbearing security?

During the year 2000/01 when England toured India (7th ODI) police were sweeping through the HUGEEEEEE line up for tickets to find out if anyone was selling tickets illegally. Apparently, they caught 3-4 crooks doing that and started beating the crap out of them with their notorious laathis before putting them in their van.

CL tickets are being sold for Rs.200-1500 (CDN $5-37.5). WC games would be Three times more than the CL prices but I think they are very very affordable.
