A most Australian win - Cricinfo

Excerpts:

By Sidharth Monga One can see why Ricky Ponting rates this series win right up there with the more special triumphs - the World Cup, the Champions Trophy, which are the pinnacle of ODI cricket. And to think that before this series, having beaten England 6-1, he seemed as interested in these seven-match bilateral back-and-forths as in meeting Harbhajan Singh for a coffee. This series tested Ponting's patience and resourcefulness, and Australia's bloody-mindedness. It was their most un-Australian display: dropping catches and missing run-outs (Hyderabad), bowling poorly at the death (Vadodara and Nagpur), wasting good starts with the bat (Delhi and Mohali). In effect, for a change, they looked capable of beating themselves. Yet this was their most Australian display: hanging in, clutching to last straws, taking risks when they were least expected to, fighting back after making mistakes, and opportunistically jumping on the first small window Sachin Tendulkar provided them in Hyderabad.

That loss in Delhi came on the back of a mauling in Nagpur. Over those five days, they had lost five players to injuries, and whatever momentum they would have hoped to carry from Vadodara. After Delhi, Ponting looked resigned. "Where do you go from here Ricky?" he was asked. "Mohali. Tomorrow."
Damn, he's got the nerve. Heart supports India, but one's gotta credit the Aussies. Pure nerve. In the end, that's what mattered. :hail:

2011 will hopefully be our year. I'm hoping for the complete treble by India that year * World cup victory * Border-Gavaskar series win in Australia (we have retained the series in Australia before, but have not yet won it) * One-day series win in Australia (just to get complete the summer and get some revenge) Also in 2010/11, we are touring South Africa. Hopefully we can win both the Test and ODI series there. So basically for India, the period from 2010/11 to 2011/12 will determine whether or not we are no.1 in the world

:punter: still is only the second Australian captain to lose not one but two Ashes in England. He's also the only Australian captain in the last 20 years to lose an Ashes. :hehe: He's lost 3 out 5 tests in India as captain. :hehe: He is also yet to win a test as captain in India. :hehe:

i have got the respect of this indian team from now on .. they just played in the difficult situations and made a fist of it .. australia are just cowards .. i rather support our team than theirs .. only a true cricket fan can analyse wat happnd through out series and decipher .. some ignorant ones just go by the wins and make a judgement ..

And soon he will be the first ever captain to lose a Border Gavaskar trophy in Australia. We rule the BG trophy anyways. It has stayed in India more that it has in Australia.

The Aussies, with a c-team, have beaten up comprehensively in our own backyard. They still are the best and will remain so for some more time to come. But we have the Border Gavaskar trophy and I hope we keep it for a few more years.
why was it a C team?? From Champions Trophy squad they missed Lee and Paine. Their strength is batting and they had full squad there with Watson, Ponting, Hussey and White is good form. If you look at the last 7 ODI series against them and compare it with current one, the games we lost were close affairs and most likely we should have won them. Last time couple of years back we were mauled most of the time.

Basically, at the cost of being weak in Tests, he has completely dominated ODI's to the point its ridiculous. It'll be a long time before we see another Captain win 2 World Cups, 2 Champion Trophies consecutively..also might take a while to beat Aussies in ODI's in our home soil again.
