is the time since we last lost a test match. :hatsoff: In that period, we have played 10 test matches against Australia, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka, won 4 of them and drawn 6. We have however, won the three previous test series we have played. Interesing points to note; We were supposed to go in a tour of Pakistan early this year (3 tests), but it got canceled due to 26/11 Ironically, our last test loss came against this very same Lankan team back in Aug 2008. Just to put things in perspective, 1033 days is the duration since Pakistan last won a test match. However, to be fair to them, they have played only 11 tests in this period of nearly 3 years, which is quite low for a test team

This unbeaten runs of ours has been possible because of this team's resilience and ability to fight back from precarious positions. In the first of the Border Gavaskar trophy in October 2008, faced with a first innings Aussie total of 430, we were staring down a massive 1st innings deficit, having been reduced to 232/7, with all our specialist batsmen dismissed. But the last 3 wickets added 128 runs, using time and adding respectability to our total. We went on to draw the match. In the second test against England in 2008, Kevin Pietersen set us an improbable 4th innings target of 387 with 120 overs on days 4 and 5 to bowl out the Indian team on a dusty Chennai pitch assisting spin. Not only did we survive, we went on win the match, courtest Sachin, Sehwag and Yuvraj And finally, in the second test against New Zealand at Napier in March of this year, we faced a daunting task of a 300+ runs first innings deficit + more than 2 days of batting. We comfortably batted out 2 days and drew the test, helped by a career-defining 100 from Gambhir. This team may not win every test match it plays, but it sure does make sure victory, if it does happen, is not going to be a walk in the park for the opposition.

I think the most crucial factor here has been Gambhir - he has been instrumental in saving us in Napier and now here. With an opener like Gambhir the Indian batting line up has become near impregnable. Many times in the past we would lose in such situations because a poor start would put pressure on the middle order almost immediately, but now Gambhir's solidity has completely transformed the situation.

He has had such a HUGE impact on our test team. Our batting order has been good for a while now. But with someone like Gautam in the midst, it just became near impossible to breach through.

Well done India. We could have won 2-3 more tests if we were attacking enough. But neverthless, we have been coming back from very tough situations and somehow being able to save tests, the ones which we used to lose earlier. As for Pakistan, with a series against NZ, Aus and two series in Eng ( vs Aus and then Eng), I hope they dont win another test for the next 9 and a half months :--D. Let the record get extended to 1318 days and 22 tests.

the chennai test was the 1st test of the series, not the 2nd.. also, it wasn't a dusty pitch.. it was a good pitch that lasted full 5 days.. sachin himself acknowledged that gave credit to the curator... but yeah.. it was a stupendous effort to win that game.. since any chase above 350 in the 4th innings in a big task... it was viru's blitzkrieg that gave us even a hope that we can go on a win.. Sachin did a great finish job.. :adore: we havent lost a test for a good period of time now.. which is good. Touch wood.. but at the same time I would like to see us winning more.. we could have easily won 2 more matches in this period, 1 against eng and 1 against nz.. but our defensive approach in securing the series is not going to help us in the long run.. we need to go for the kill., especially when we play at home or against weaker opposition..

Don’t know. I think the time factor doesn’t matter, but the number of matches played does.
