Umar Akmal is a potential batting great

Recommended Posts

Augurs well for Umar. Getting kicked out of the test squad may be the first step towards Pakistani captaincy. FWIW, these are the official requirements posted on the PCB website for a Pakistani captain: - Dropped a while ago - Retired in the past - Banned recently - Experience leading one of the 11 gangs in the team, a big plus. - No more than two criminal investigations may be pending at any time - Former Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Harkat-Ul-Mujahideen members preferred

But seriously, It is ludicrous for selectors to leave out U.Akmal when he shown far more potential to succeed than any other young Pakistani batsman. The team has been a round of musical chairs for a long time now where players are chopped and changed at the whims and fancies of the selectors.

I don't know about Akmal tbh. He looked good against Bond in NZ but he has become a slogger rather than taking the step to the next level. The lack of senior batsmen to guide him might be a factor but it's not really an excuse.
Ya he has been having a lot of brainfarts of late, but of all people, it is Farhat and Malik who are replacing him. U akmal is certainly far better than those two hacks, and one who has potential to perform in the future even though he isnt doing so currently.

My observations are not based on the numbers he has racked up - I am aware of many batsmen who have had glittering starts to their careers and fizzled out. It's the time he has while playing or the manner in which he is able to go through periods of defence punctuated by attack, the way he picks up the length so quickly, and is completely unfazed by the situation and reputations of the opponent. And it's also not a statement that he will definitely become the batsman of the next decade. But he has got all the ingredients to become one of the major batting forces for the coming 10-12 years. Of course, a lot will depend on how he copes with success. Also, as Bumper has mentioned the role his team and PCB play in this. It's entirely possible that he gets left out after a couple of poor series or ruins his career through the internal wranglings in the team. I feel he is going to score a more than a handy century during this tour itself. Bossbhai, the playing away all the time might not give him the raw numbers but can work the other way and make him a more complete batsman. Within his first international year he would have played tests in NZ, Australia, and England, none of them easy places to bat on for someone in his first year of cricket. And no Dhondy, this is not a make up posts for uncharitable comments on Pakistanis:D

Malik is a joke and Farhat only gets in because of connections in the board.

If I were their Captain ' date=' I would've used him as an opener. Kind of openers they have they are already 1 wicket down. He is a stroke player , not a blocker and will not work anywhere except opening slot in test cricket.[/quote'] They've got a reasonable opening pair right now. His idea spot will be at 4 imo. Hafeez Toffee Kumar Sunil Gavaskar Y Khan Misbah A lot of players start at 6 and move up because of their performances. You have to earn it. If he performs well at 6, he will move up especially since Y Khan and Misbah aren't really young.

That's the secret of PCB's success! Drop the best player in the squad by a mile:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:
